ULM Tennis Falls at Miss. State, Ending Three-Match Unbeaten Streak

STARKVILLE, Miss. – In the first meeting between the two programs since Feb. 16, 2012, Mississippi State emerged with a 7-0 win over visiting ULM in tennis action Sunday at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. The loss snapped ULM's three-match unbeaten streak.
 
The Bulldogs (9-5) opened the match with a doubles victory by the No. 58 nationally ranked tandem of Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine, who posted a 6-0 win over Emma Billon and Jimena Garbino. Teammates Marta Falceto and Sara Lizariturry notched the first point of the match for Mississippi State when they downed Jelena Lopicic and Giovanna Pereira by a 6-1 margin in the clash of No. 3 doubles.
 
Marta Falceto won by default in No. 6 singles to provide the Bulldogs with their second point of the day. Valeria Nikolaev stretched the Mississippi State lead to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Lopicic at No. 4 singles.
 
The decisive team point for the Bulldogs came when No. 88 nationally ranked Emma Antonaki downed Garbino by scores of 6-1 and 6-4 at the No. 1 singles position.
 
Sara Lizariturry secured Mississippi State's fifth point in the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Pereira in the meeting at No. 5. Adaloglou picked up her second point of the match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory of Billon in a battle of second-seeded players.
 
The Bulldogs completed their sweep of ULM (2-2-1) as No. 3 seeded Alexandra Mikhailuk defeated Madalina Grigoriu by scores of 7-5, 6-0.
 
ULM opens Sun Belt Conference play next weekend when it heads to the Peach State to face Georgia State (Saturday, March 14) and Georgia Southern (Sunday, March 15).
