HOOVER, Ala. – Sophomore Chantal Dueringer and junior Jahaanvie Walia were part of a three-way tie for third place as the ULM women's golf team placed sixth Tuesday at the Hoover Invitational at Hoover Country Club.
"It was a challenging day on the course for us," ULM assistant coach Lana Hodge said. "We made some errors that cost us several shots. We were still struggling with some iron shots and we just couldn't get anything going."
Dueringer and Walia each finished at 1-over-par 217 for the tournament, four shots behind Indianapolis' Pilar Echeverria, who won the tournament at 3-under-par 213. The Warhawks finished at 30-over-par 894 as a team. Indianapolis won the tournament at 8-over-par 872.
While Dueringer and Walia finished at the same number, each took a different path to arrive there.
Dueringer played her best round of the tournament on Tuesday. She entered the day at 4-over-par but used five birdies on Tuesday to finish at 3-under-par 69 for the round at 1-over-par 217 (76-72-69) for the tournament. The native of Bregenz, Austria, picked up birdies on the par-4 fourth, par-3 fifth, par-5 11th, par-4 14th and par-5 18th holes to go with 11 pars in the third round.
"Chantal had a great final round," Hodge said. "She is hitting the ball well and is starting to get a good feel with her putter."
Walia finished a steady tournament with a 1-over-par 73 in the final round to close at 1-over-par 217 (72-72-73). She had just one birdie, coming on the par-3 fifth, to go along with 16 pars for the round. Walia led all players in the tournament with 41 pars.
"Jahaanvie finished strong as well," Hodge said. "She was solid all day with her ball striking, putting and decision making. I'm really proud of their top-three finishes individually."
Senior Shani White tied for 30th with a tournament total of 229 (77-75-77). In the third round, White birdied the par-4 15th and picked up 11 pars to shoot 5-over-par 77.

Freshman Line Petersen tallied a total of 236 (79-78-79). Petersen birdied the par-5 ninth and drained 10 pars to finish the tournament with a 7-over-par 79 in the third round.
"We have around three weeks to prepare for our last two tournaments of the fall," Hodge said. "I look for us to have a strong finish for our fall semester."
The Warhawks are off for nearly a month before competing in the UT Arlington Invitational Oct. 19-20.
