MONROE, La. – The ULM men's golf team continues its fall season at the Graeme McDowell Invitational, hosted by UAB, Tuesday and Wednesday at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama.
The tournament will be played on the Greystone Founders Course, a par-72 layout covering 7,299 yards. The course features five par-5 and five par-3 holes along with eight par-4 holes.
The Warhawks will send six golfers to the tournament, led by seniors Andoni Etchenique and Guillaume Fanonnel, sophomores Keegan McLachlan and Otto Van Buynder and freshmen Cody Winkler and Melan Dhaubhadel.
Etchenique opened the 2020 fall slate with a second-place finish at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, Louisiana. Etchenique, a native of Saint-Pee-sur-Nivelle, France, had a pair of below-par rounds, shooting a first round 3-under-par 69 and final round 4-under-par 68 to lead the Warhawks with a 5-under-par 211 for the tournament. He led all players in the tournament with 14 birdies and picked up an eagle.
Fanonnel, a native of Lyon, France, tied for 22nd at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate with a 3-over-par 219 (72-70-77). Fanonnel picked up 12 birdies on the tournament, including six in the first round and five in the second round.
McLachlan, a native of Pretoria, South Africa, shot a 223 in the season's first tournament. His best round was a second-round 2-under-par 70, where he had three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 second hole. He tied for the team lead in pars with Dhaubhadel with 33 for the tournament.
Van Buynder, a native of Centurion, South Africa, tied for 18th at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate with a 2-over-par 218 (73-71-74). He picked up 11 birdies in the tournament, draining four each in the first and third rounds.
Winkler, a native of McKinney, Texas, makes his ULM debut at the Graeme McDowell Invitational. He is the 16th ranked golfer in Texas, and 297th ranked junior golfer in the country by Rolex Rankings. Winkler tied for sixth place in the Class 6A Region II Golf Championship, tied for eighth in the AJGA C.T. Pan Junior Championship, and tied for 11th in the 2018 Byron Nelson Junior Championship.
Dhaubhadel, a native of Berkshire, England, closed the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate with his best round. He tied for 22nd with a 3-over-par 219 (75-73-71). In the final round, Dhaubhadel tallied back-to-back birdies on the par-4 sixth and seventh holes and added birdies on the par-3 12th and par-5 17th to go along with 11 pars.
