RUSTON, La. – The ULM tennis team concluded the fall schedule at the LA Tech Invitational on Saturday with sophomore
Hala Badwy winning all three of her matches against competitors from Louisiana Tech.
Badwy teamed with senior
Brianna Gomez to defeat Tech's Olga Bienzobas and Najah Dawson, 7-5, in doubles action. Badwy then defeated Tech's Leonie Schuknecht, 6-1, 7-5, and Bienzobas, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (3) in singles to finish 3-0 on the day.
Gomez lost her first singles match to Tech's Ilana Tetruashvili 7-6 (4), 6-0, before bouncing back with a win over Ana Rodrigues, 6-4, 6-0.
In doubles play, senior
Madalina Grigoriu and sophomore
Oleksandra Balaba lost to Rodrigues and Schuknecht, 6-2. In singles play, Grigoriu topped Bienzobas, 6-2, 6-0, and lost to Schuknecht, 6-1, 6-2. Balaba lost to Rodrigues, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (2) before defeating Tetruashvili, 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles action, junior
Jimena Paula Garbino and sophomore
Daniela Hernandez lost to Tech's Alexia Romero and Tetruashvili, 6-3. Garbino defeated Tech's Lara Unkovich, 6-1, 6-1, and lost to Dawson, 7-5, 6-4. Hernandez won both of her singles matches, topping Dawson, 6-4, 6-2, and Unkovich, 6-2, 6-3.
Sophomore
Giovanna Pereira also competed in singles matching, winning twice. She defeated Grambling's Mikaila Coleman, 6-1, 6-1, and GSU's Itzel Hernandez, 6-2, 6-2.
The Warhawks enter the dual portion of their schedule in January.
