MONROE, La. – The ULM Warhawks won their opening match of the 2021 ULM Beach Invitational Thursday afternoon with a 4-1 victory over Missouri State.
ULM (3-6 overall) picked up wins in the first two matches of the day and sealed the win in the fourth match.
ULM's Avery Reynold and Holland Pontheiux opened the dual with a 2-0 win over Brooke Plessner and Gala Galabova, 21-8, 21-11, in the No. 5 flight.
Abbey Bufkin and
Elizabeth Moreland claimed the No. 4 flight for ULM with a 2-0 victory against Tori Penick and Pamela Jaime, 21-13, 21-18.
Missouri State won its only match of the day with a 2-0 win over ULM's
Katie McKay and
Anna Demmer in the No. 2 flight, 21-6, 21-18.
The Warhawks sealed the dual with a win in the No. 3 flight as
Kayla Gallant and
Abigail Elder won a pair of tight sets against Parker McAllen and Kylee Davis, 21-18, 22-20. ULM added a fourth point as the No. 1 flight tandem of
Audrey Brooks and
Julia Blazek rallied for a 2-1 win over Chloe Filipski and Tylar Garrett, 17-21, 21-11, 17-15.
ULM plays three matches on Friday, facing Houston Baptist at noon, Hendrix at 3 and Central Arkansas at 4:30 at the ULM beach volleyball courts.
