MONROE, La. – The ULM tennis team dropped Sunday's home Sun Belt Conference match to the Ragin' Cajuns, 4-3, at Heard Stadium.
ULM fell to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in the Sun Belt Conference.
The Ragin' Cajuns opened the match by winning the doubles point. The Cajuns' Lucie Raquin and Dana Radanovic won the No. 3 doubles match over ULM's
Jimena Paula Garbino and
Daniela Hernandez, 6-2. ULM bounced back with a win at No. 1 doubles as
Hala Badwy and
Oleksandra Balaba topped Floriane Picaut and Clara Mantaux, 6-4. However, the Cajuns took the point when Isabella Kirkegaard and Christina Jordan bested
Drousile Dzeubou and
Madalina Grigoriu at No. 2 doubles, 7-5.
In singles action, ULM knotted the match at 2 as Balaba beat Jordan, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 3 battle. The Warhawks went in front when Grigoriu picked up a win over Kierkegaard, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 5 singles.
The Cajuns tied the match at 2 when Raquin earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Garbino in the No. 4 showdown. The Cajuns then regained the lead when Picaut outlasted Badwy in the No. 1 flight, 1-6, 7-5, 6-0.
ULM tied up the dual once more with Dzeubou's win in the No. 2 battle with Mantaux, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (5).
The Cajuns claimed their second win of the season over ULM at No. 6 singles, when Radovanovic held off Hernandez, 6-7 (6), 6-0, 7-5.
ULM returns to the court with a 2 p.m. match Tuesday at Northwestern State.
