SAN MARCOS, Texas – The ULM track and field team put the finishing touches on its three-day stay in Texas on Saturday by earning four Top-10 finishes on Saturday, March 27. All four of those Top-10s came at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational.

Rebekka Schubert and
Alivia Busch highlighted the final day of the Texas State Bobcat Invitational by placing second in the heptathlon and third in the shot put, respectively.
Schubert, who accrued 4,742 points in seven heptathlon events, claimed first in the long jump, second in the javelin and third in the 800-meter run on Saturday. In the long jump she traveled 5.78 meters, edging out VCU's Courtney Higgins, who placed second with a distance of 5.52 meters. Her javelin toss reached 29.66 meters, second only to Eastern Michigan's Gianna Salzbrunn, who had a distance of 36.49 meters. Schubert was just 65 points shy of Higgins in the overall competition, placing second.
Busch grabbed third in the shot put with a heave of 13.56 meters, earning her second Top-3 finish of the slate. Texas State's Lauryn Small won the event with a toss of 14.37 meters and second belonged to Sah-Jay Stevens from UTEP, who had a throw of 13.79 meters.
The top men's finisher on the day in San Marcos was
Grant Girtman, who placed fourth in the decathlon with 5,176 points. Girtman and teammate
Darryl Givens competed in the event and Girtman finished among the Top-4 competitors on three occasions Saturday. He was third in both the 110-meter hurdles (16.93) and javelin (38.56 meters), placing fourth in the 1500-meter run in a time of 5:35.40.
Reid Guirlando was also among the Top-10 men's finishers on Saturday, placing seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.10.
Eric Hawkins traveled to the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Saturday and placed 19th in the men's 800-meter run, posting a time of 1:52.06. He was the only Warhawk to compete in Austin on Saturday.
ULM will return to Texas on April 3 to compete in the Baylor Invitational in Waco.
