NEW ORLEANS – The ULM beach volleyball team earned its second split in as many days when it wrapped up action at the Bayou Beach Bash on Saturday, March 6 with a 3-2 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Warhawks opened the day with a tough 4-1 loss at the hands of in-state rival and tournament-host Tulane in the morning session.

"This was a fantastic weekend for our team," ULM head coach
Charlie Olson said. "It was high-level volleyball from top to bottom, including Florida State, which has an opportunity to make a run at the National Championship. This weekend challenged our team physically and mentally, and we ended up splitting 2-2.

The Warhawks picked up their second win of the 2021 season, both of which have come by 3-2 scores, this time against Texas A&M-Kingsville.

ULM's No. 1 pair of
Julia Blazek and
Audrey Brooks earned its fifth win of the season and its second in as many matches by overcoming an opening-set loss against Roxanne Morris and Olivia Nicholson to claim a 17-21, 21-13, 15-7 win.

The Warhawks also posted a win in the clash of No. 3 seeds as
Abigail Elder and
Kayla Gallant earned a three-set win (18-21, 21-15, 15-11) over Macy Berg and Tenley Houser. Teammates
Elizabeth Moreland and
Abbey Bufkin contributed a point for ULM, posting a 14-21, 21-15, 15-13 victory over TaylorLynn Noga and Macie Satterwhite.

The two victories for Texas A&M-Kingsville came on the second and fifth courts. Shelby Williams and Debra Rogers were responsible for a 21-19, 21-19 win in No. 2 singles over
Anna Demmer and
Katie McKay. Meanwhile, teammates Rylie Anderson and Emily North came through with a 21-18, 21-9 victory over
Ina Gosen and
Holland Ponthieux in fifth-seeded play.

Tulane 4, ULM 1

Tulane claimed its fifth-straight win in the head-to-head series with ULM with a 4-1 victory in the morning match for the Warhawks.

The lone point for ULM came from the tandem of Julia lazek and
Audrey Brooks, who came away with a 21-18, 24-22 victory over Tarin Mergener and Eva Torruella in a clash of No. 1 seeds. The victory was the fourth for the ULM duo this season.

Tulane's No. 2 seeded pairing of Kendall Peters and Allie Olsonoski defeated
Anna Demmer and
Katie McKay by scores of 21-14, 21-19. Teammates Addison Hermstad and Samantha Mehlman posted a two-set win (21-11, 21-18) against
Abigail Elder and
Kayla Gallant as No. 3 pairs collided.

The Green Wave (7-1) also received a point from the fourth-seeded duo of Avery Arellano and Lara Torruella, who emerged with a 21-10, 21-17 victory over
Elizabeth Moreland and
Abbey Bufkin. Rio Frohoff and Gabriella Becerra also produced a two-set victory (21-6, 21-17) over ULM's No. 5 pair of
Ina Gosen and
Holland Ponthieux.

The Warhawks will compete in their first home match of the season, beginning on Thursday, March 11 when they play host to the three-day ULM Beach Invitational. ULM opens the tournament against Missouri State Thursday at 1:30 p.m., followed by Friday, March 12 matches against Houston Baptist and Nicholls State (March 12) and Saturday, March 13 matches against New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana.
