ULM Claims Second Win at Battle on the Bayou

BATON ROUGE, La. – The ULM beach volleyball team claimed its second win at the Battle on the Bayou with a 4-1 over Central Arkansas in the second of three matches Saturday at the LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium. The Warhawks also dropped matches to Texas A&M-Kingsville (3-2) and No. 4 LSU (5-0) Saturday.
 
Match 1: Texas A&M-Kingsville 3, ULM 2
 
Texas A&M-Kingsville claimed the second win in the all-time series between the two programs with a 3-2 victory on Saturday morning. It also marked the sixth-straight match that has been decided by a 3-2 decision.
 
ULM's Audrey Brooks and Julia Blazek picked up their third win of the Battle on the Bayou with a 21-18, 21-17 decision over Olivia Nicholson and Roxanne Morris on court one. Teammates Elizabeth Moreland and Brooke Hoven were also successful in their match on court five against Adrienne Van Brunt and Macy Berg, winning in three sets by scores of 21-8, 19-21, 15-11.
 
The three wins for the Javelinas came by the second, third and fourth courts. Debra Rogers and Shelby Williams, the No. 2 seeds for Texas A&M-Kingsville, earned a 21-19, 21-14 victory over the tandem of Kayla Gallant and Abigail Elder.
 
The third-seeded tandem of Tenley Housler and Macie Satterwhite triumphed over ULM's Anna Demmer and Katie McKay by scores of 21-16, 21-14. On court four, Texas A&M-Kingsville's pairing of Emily North and Rylie Anderson earned a two-set win over Holland Ponthieux and Ina Gosen by scores of 21-16, 21-19.

Match 2: ULM 4, Central Arkansas 1
 
The Warhawks claimed their second win of the 2021 season against Central Arkansas, 4-1, in the first of two afternoon matches on Saturday.
 
The tandem of Audrey Brooks and Julia Blazek were responsible for one of ULM's four points in the match, posting a 21-11, 21-14 victory over Aly Brinkley and Colene Hamilton in the clash of No. 1 seeds. On court two, Anna Demmer and Katie McKay also notched a point for the Warhawks, earning a 21-19, 22-20 decision over Faith Hasness and Evelyn Griffith.
 
The Warhawks swept the Top-3 seeds as Kayla Gallant and Abigail Elder posted a two-set victory against Kelsie Sager and Makenna Schmitt by scores of 21-19, 22-20 on court three. Also coming through with a win for ULM in the match was the duo of Elizabeth Moreland and Brooke Hoven, defeating the tandem of Payton Sproule and Mary Galloway by scores of 21-16, 22-20 on court five.
 
The lone win for the Bears came on court four as Julia Oravec and Kayla Cook downed ULM's Ina Gosen and Holland Ponthieux by scores of 21-18, 21-17.

Match 3: No. 4 LSU 5, ULM 0
 
The fourth-ranked Tigers earned their seventh consecutive win in the all-time series over the Warhawks with a 5-0 victory on Saturday evening. LSU's Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss were the only duo to slow down ULM's Audrey Brooks and Julia Blazek at the tournament, earning a 21-10, 21-8 victory on court one.
 
The Tigers' Claire Coppola and Kelli Greene-Agnew posted a 21-11, 21-8 victory over Anna Demmer and Katie McKay on court two. Toni Rodriguez and Ashlyn Rasnick-Pope scored another point for LSU with a 21-11, 21-13 win against Kayla Gallant and Abigail Elder on court three.
 
On court four, LSU's Jess Lansman and Reilly Allred produced a 21-17, 21-8 victory over Holland Ponthieux and Ina Gosen. Meanwhile, Kahlee York and Olivia Ordonez earned a 21-5, 21-17 win against ULM's Elizabeth Moreland and Brooke Hoven on court five.

The Warhawks will now head to Birmingham, Alabama, for their final regular-season tournament, the Blazer Beach Bash, scheduled for April 16-17. The following week, ULM will compete in the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championship April 22-25 in Huntsville, Ala.
