LINCOLN, Neb. – A pair of Top-15 finishes by
Otto Van Buynder and
Andoni Etchenique were instrumental in helping the ULM men's golf team finish in a tie for sixth place at the Git-R-Done Husker Intercollegiate, which drew to a close on Sunday, April 18 at Firethorn Golf Club.
Van Buynder notched his seventh career Top-10 finish and third of the 2021 season by closing in a three-way tie for 10th with a 3-over-par score of 216. His final round 69 was the lowest of the day among all five ULM golfers and was one of eight sub-70 third rounds by the entire 61-man field. Van Buynder drained birdies at the third, 11th and 18th holes and came through with 14 pars over the course of the day.
Etchenique picked up his 18th career Top-25 finish by closing in a five-way tie for 13th. He was 4-over-par with a combined score of 216, including a final round 74. Etchenique's scorecard included one birdie, which came on the 12th green, and 13 pars on the day.
ULM, which placed itself in a tie for sixth-place on the team leaderboard alongside Oral Roberts, earned its 11th consecutive Top-10 finish since placing ninth at The All American on February 18, 2020. The Warhawks, who finished 34-over-par with a combined score of 886, were two shots behind Eastern Michigan, which placed fifth. Kansas State and Minnesota shared the team championship with an even-par score of 852.
Minnesota's Angus Flanagan earned the individual crown with a 6-under-par score of 207, closing out the tournament with a 66 on Sunday, the lowest of any player at the event.
The third-best finish of the two-day, three-round event for the Warhawks came from
Melan Dhaubhadel, who finished in a four-way tie for 28th. Dhaubhadel notched his best round of the tournament on Sunday, closing with a 73, which was the second-lowest score only to Van Buynder's 69. On the day he tallied birdies at the second and 10th holes along with 13 pars.
Liam Duncan, competing in just his second tournament of the season, closed the event in 54th with a 21-over-par score of 234. Duncan shaved one stroke off each of his three rounds to close out Sunday play with a 77. He carded a birdie at two and added 11 pars on the round for the Warhawks.
Senior
Guillaume Fanonnel was able to compete in the final round of the event for ULM, finishing with a 74. He came through with eight pars and one birdie on the front nine, which came at the third hole, before closing out the back nine with five pars.
ULM will now head to El Dorado, Arkansas to compete in the Sun Belt Championships, which begin on Sunday, April 25.
