NATCHITOCHES, La. – The ULM track and field team brought home 15 Top-3 finishes, including six first-place showings, from the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational Saturday at the Walter P. Ledet Track Complex at Northwestern State.
Jakob Fudge won the title in the shot put by throwing 54-1 (16.48), nearly three feet further than the second place finisher. Fudge uncorked his best throw of the day on his third attempt. He claimed first in the hammer throw by tossing 182-10 (55.74), more than 13 feet better than second place. He unleashed the winning distance on his second throw of the day.
Ronald Henderson tied for first in the high jump with the Ragin' Cajuns Damon Guidry, with each clearing 6-6 1/4 (1.99) on his first attempt.
Brandon Lewis set a pair of personal bests on Saturday. He took the crown in the 400 meter hurdles, crossing the line in 53.81 seconds. He also placed third in the 110 hurdles in 14.67 seconds. Lewis was part of the 4x100 relay with
Jhavonte Perry,
Keith Robinson and
Grant Girtman that finished second in 41.45. Perry also placed third in the men's 200 in 21.33 seconds.
Cole Burgess took third in the pole vault by clearing 4.75 meters, while
Callan Saldutto finished third in the javelin with a throw of 193-3 (58.91).
On the women's side,
Hannah Blood led the way in the hammer throw at 186-4 (56.80), beating out teammate
Hayden Holloway at 178-3 (54.34). Both Warhawk athletes released their best throw on the second attempt.
Kaye-Loni Bowden won the 5,000 meters in 22:07.04, taking the crown by nearly four-and-a-half minutes.
Jasmine Williams set a personal record while taking second place in the 400 hurdles in 1:01.38.
Alivia Busch was second in the shot put with a heave of 45-3 1/2 (13.80), coming through with the distance on her second toss.
Brittney Roberson claimed bronze in the 400 meters in 57.32 seconds.
ULM concludes the regular season on April 30 and May 1 at Mississippi State's Maroon and White Invitational.
