MONROE, La. – The ULM track & field team opens the 2021 Sun Belt Championship on Thursday with the event continuing through Saturday at the Jaguar Track Complex in Mobile, Alabama.
Through the final meet of the regular season on April 30 and May 1 at Mississippi State, ULM athletes have recorded 22 marks that rank inside the Top 10 of their respective events when compared to Sun Belt Conference competition.
For both the men and women, the top marks have come from the throwing events. Freshman
Callan Saldutto ranks second in the SBC in the men's javelin with a mark of 227-11 (69.46 meters), set on March 25 at the Texas Relays. Senior
Cole McKnight ranks eighth in the SBC in javelin with a mark of 191-2 (58.28), also set at the Texas Relays.
Jakob Fudge is also a contender in two throwing events: the shot put and the hammer throw. The junior ranks fifth in the SBC in the shot put with a heave of 54-1 (16.48), set at Northwestern State's Leon Johnson Invitational on April 24. Fudge is also eighth in the hammer throw with a distance of 184-1 (56.10), set at the Little Rock Open on April 10.
In women's throwing events,
Hannah Blood leads three Warhawks in the Top 10 of the hammer. The sophomore has a personal best of 188-5 (57.44), set at Mississippi State, to rank third in the SBC. Senior
Hayden Holloway is seventh at 178-3 (54.34), set at Northwestern State, and senior
Brianna Sam is eighth at 177-0 (53.96), set at LSU's Boots Garland Invitational on April 17. Junior Morgan Derosia is eighth in the javelin at 128-2 (39.08), set at Baylor Invitational on April 3. Junior
Alivia Busch is 10th in the shot put at 46-7 1/2 (14.21), set at Little Rock.
In the jumps, graduate student Ronald Henderson leads the way for the men. Henderson, who claimed the 2019 Big South Conference outdoor high jump title while competing at Campbell, has cleared 6-11 1/2 (2.12). He cleared the height on March 19 at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette. His mark ranks fourth in the SBC. He is also eighth in the long jump with a distance of 24-3 3/4 (7.41), set at Little Rock.
On the women's side, senior
Rebekka Schubert has the 10th-best distance in the long jump at 19-3 1/2 (5.88). She also is fourth in the heptathlon this season, accumulating 4,742 points at the Texas Relays.
On the track, senior
Eric Hawkins has the fourth-best time in the SBC in the 800 meters in 1:52.06, which he set at the Texas Relays. He is also 10th in the 400 in 48.00, set at Mississippi State. In sprints, junior
Keith Robinson is sixth in the 100 in 10.50, set at MSU. Junior
Jhavonte Perry is eighth in the 200 in 21.33, set at Northwestern State.
Brandon Lewis is seeded seventh in the 400 hurdles in 53.81, set at NSU.
For the women on the track, the 4x400 meter relay team brings the fourth-best time into the conference meet, finishing in 3:44.82 at the Texas Relays. Junior
Jasmine Williams is fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:00.85, set at Mississippi State. Graduate student
Sharon Jerono is sixth in the 1500 in 4:32.89, set at MSU. Junior
Fiebe Tengrootenhuysen is sixth in the 400 in 55.29, set at Baylor.
