STILLWATER, Okla. – ULM fifth-year senior Guillaume Fanonnel, who won three individual titles last fall and posted a team-best 72.48 scoring average this season, is set to compete as an individual in the 2021 NCAA Stillwater (Oklahoma) Regional, scheduled for May 17-19 at the Karsten Creek Golf Club.

Due to Tuesday's weather forecast, NCAA Regional officials will attempt to get 36 holes in on Monday, with play beginning at 7:30 a.m. Fanonnel tees off at 9:42 a.m. Officials still hope to play all 54 holes by Wednesday.

It marks Fanonnel's second career appearance in an NCAA Regional after earning a spot as an individual in the 2019 field. One of 45 individuals selected to compete in the 2021 NCAA Championships, he becomes the first golfer in ULM program history to qualify for multiple NCAA Regionals. ULM's other NCAA individual qualifiers include Doug Farr (1971), Kenny Buchan (1989), Brad Surles (1995) and Gustaf Kocken (2011).

The low individual not a member of an advancing team from each regional will qualify for the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships, scheduled for May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

An All-Sun Belt Conference First-Team selection, Fanonnel led the Warhawks in scoring average, birdies (92) and greens in regulation (.683) during the 2020-21 season. He posted 14 rounds of 72 or lower, including six in the 60s.

"I'm very happy to end my college career with another postseason competition," Fanonnel said. "It would have meant even more for me if we had made it as a team.

"Having played in an NCAA Regional in 2019 definitely is something that will help in terms of expectations and mindset. I know it's going to require some great golf to make it to the NCAA Championship but not necessarily perfect (golf).

"The course should be similar to Mystic Creek (El Dorado, Arkansas), which is a good thing for me because I know how to work my way around those types of courses, and I managed it well at the Sun Belt Conference Championship. So, it should be an exciting week, and I will enjoy every moment of it as it could be, but hopefully not, my last college event."

Fanonnel finished tied for seventh in the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Championship with a 10-over 226. He won three consecutive tournaments last fall: Graeme McDowell Invitational (10-under-par 206), Intercollegiate at The Grove (4-under 140) and Little Rock Invitational (10-under 206). His three individual titles matched the single-season record set by Kocken in 2010-11.

He is ranked No. 64 in the latest PGA TOUR university standings with 800.9871 points.

A native of Lyon, France, Fanonnel ranks as ULM's career leader in scoring average (72.5), par or better rounds (64) and eagles (16). His 395 career birdies are second on the school's all-time list.

"I'm very pleased that Guillaume Fanonnel has another opportunity to compete in the NCAA Regionals," ULM Director of Golf Tim Baldwin said. "He really has had an exceptional career; just look at his numbers, like 64 of 121 career rounds at par or better. It's going to be tough to replace him in next year's lineup.

"The Stillwater Regional is being played on a real hard course, which might suit his game very well."
