Fanonnel Sits 9-Over-Par After 36 Holes at NCAA Stillwater Regional

Men's Golf
STILLWATER, Okla. – ULM fifth-year senior Guillaume Fanonnel sits at 9-over-par 153 after completing 36 holes Monday (May 17) at the 2021 NCAA Stillwater Regional, which is being played at the par-72, 7,502-yard course at Karsten Creek Golf Club. Fanonnel is tied for ninth among the 10 individual qualifiers at the regional.

Due to Tuesday's weather forecast, NCAA Regional officials elected to complete the first two rounds on the opening day of competition. The third round is scheduled to begin Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Fanonnel failed to find his rhythm in the first round, shooting a 4-over-par 40 on both the front and back nine for an 8-over 80. He managed only three birdies and five pars over the first 18 holes.

ULM's career leader in scoring average (72.5 heading into the Stillwater Regional) rebounded in the second round, carding a 1-over-par 73 to climb eight spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 58th place. He birdied the first hole and followed with back-to-back pars on the second and third greens. After a double bogey on the fourth hole, Fanonnel strung together eight consecutive pars. He posted two bogeys and three pars over the next five holes, but an eagle on the par-5, 575-yard 18th hole sent him to the clubhouse even on the back nine and 1-over 73 for the round.

His 36-hole totals included 18 pars, four birdies and one eagle.

"'G' simply had too many missed opportunities today," ULM Director of Golf Tim Baldwin said. "He didn't hit the ball great this morning, so he got frustrated. To his credit, 'G' played much better in the second round this afternoon."

Fanonnel trails Colorado State's AJ Ott, who leads all the individual qualifiers and is currently tied for fourth on the leaderboard at 4-under-par 140 (70-70). SMU's Noah Goodwin leads the 74-player field at 11-under 133 (66-67).

The low individual not a member of an advancing team from each regional will qualify for the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships, scheduled for May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
