Men's Golf
MONROE, La. – ULM fifth-year senior Guillaume Fanonnel, who won three individual titles last fall and qualified to compete as an individual in the 2021 NCAA Stillwater (Oklahoma) Regional has been named to the All-Sun Belt First Team, as selected by the conference's men's golf coaches. In addition, sophomore Otto Van Buynder has earned All-Sun Belt Third-Team honors.

It marks the third time in his career that Fanonnel has been selected All-Sun Belt, earning first-team recognition in 2019 and third-team honors in 2018.

It also marks Fanonnel's second career appearance in an NCAA Regional after earning a spot as an individual in the 2019 field. One of 45 individuals selected to compete in the 2021 NCAA Championships, he becomes the first golfer in ULM program history to qualify for multiple NCAA Regionals. ULM's other NCAA individual qualifiers include Doug Farr (1971), Kenny Buchan (1989), Brad Surles (1995) and Gustaf Kocken (2011).

Fanonnel is seeded No. 8 out of 10 individuals selected to compete in the 2021 NCAA Stillwater Regional, scheduled for May 17-19 at the Karsten Creek Golf Club. The low individual not a member of an advancing team from each regional will qualify for the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships, scheduled for May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

A native of Lyon, France, Fanonnel led the Warhawks in scoring average (72.48), birdies (92) and greens in regulation (.683) during the 2020-21 season. He posted 14 rounds of 72 or lower, including six in the 60s.

Fanonnel finished tied for seventh in the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Championship with a 10-over 226. He won three consecutive tournaments last fall: Graeme McDowell Invitational (10-under-par 206), Intercollegiate at The Grove (4-under 140) and Little Rock Invitational (10-under 206). His three individual titles matched the single-season record set by Kocken in 2010-11.

He is ranked No. 64 in the latest PGA TOUR university standings with 800.9871 points.

Fanonnel ranks as ULM's career leader in scoring average (72.5), par or better rounds (64) and eagles (16). His 395 career birdies are second on the school's all-time list.

"It's a fitting end to an outstanding career for Guillaume Fanonnel," ULM Director of Golf Tim Baldwin said. "For 'G' to win three tournaments in a row last fall was an unprecedented feat. He also had 64 of 121 competitive round at par of better for his career. 'G' will certainly be a future ULM Hall of Famer."

A native of Centurion, South Africa, Van Buynder posted the team's second-lowest scoring average at 73.38 average and his 86 birdies tied for second on the team. He tallied 12 rounds of 72 or lower, including two in the 60s.

Van Buynder had seven Top-20 finishes, including three in the Top 10. He earned a season-best seventh at the Arizona Intercollegiate, finishing at 2-over-par 215 (71-74-70). His other top performances in 2020-21 came in the Intercollegiate at The Grove (tied for ninth at 1-under-par 143) and Git-R-Done Husker Invitational (tied for 10th at 3-over-par 216).

"I'm also happy for Otto Van Buynder," Baldwin said. "He really carried us this spring with his consistency. He'll be back next year as a junior."
