Madalina Grigoriu and the duo of junior
Jimena Paula Garbino and senior
Brianna Gomez won bracket championships on the final day of the 2021 Warhawk Invitational Saturday at Heard Stadium.
Grigoriu, who won all of her singles matches in the fall of 2020, finished another perfect weekend in tournament play to open 2021. She won the Gold Bracket by topping Arkansas State's Hunter Roper, 6-4, 6-1.
Also in the Gold Bracket, sophomore
Hala Badwy was third after beating Southeastern's Putri Insani, 6-2, 6-3.
In the Burgundy Bracket, Garbino was third with a 2-6, 7-5 (10-6) win against SFA's Lucy Furness. Gomez dropped a consolation match to Southeastern's Ekaterina Oborina, 6-1, 6-0.
In the Black Bracket, sophomore
Daniela Hernandez dropped the third-place match to Southeastern's Sonya Kanarskaya, 6-2, 6-0.
In the White Bracket, sophomore
Giovanna Pereira lost the championship match to SFA's Elena Bleicher, 6-3, 3-6 (10-6).
In doubles play, Garbino and Gomez took the Hawks Bracket. The pair defeated A-State's Rebecca Brody and Sofia Vdovychenko, 6-1, in the semifinals before besting Southeastern's Kanarskaya and Oborina in the finals, 6-4.
In the War Bracket, Grigoriu and Hernandez were fourth after dropping the semifinal to A-State's Zukic and Thea Rice, 6-3, and the third-place match to the other A-State team of Roper and Emily Surcey, 6-4. Badwy and Pereira were fifth after beating SFA's Ule and Cerda in the consolation semifinals, 6-4, and SFA's Ai Noa Fabre and Elise Frigout, 6-2.
The Warhawks return to the court Sept. 24-25 at Northwestern State.
