Dueringer Third, Warhawks Fifth After Day One at Hoover Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – ULM junior Chantal Dueringer is third and the Warhawk women's golf team is in fifth place following the first two rounds of the Hoover Invitational Monday at Heatherwood Golf & Country Club.
 
The Warhawks shot a two-round total of 26-over-par 602 (305-297), which is 16 shots off the lead of Florida Atlantic at 10-over-par 586 (301-285).
 
Dueringer improved as the day progressed Monday, shooting a 1-under-par 143. She started with a 3-over-par 75 in the opening round before bouncing back with a 4-under-par 68, which was the second-best score of the round, in the second round. She had two birdies in the first round, coming on the par-4 sixth and the par-5 ninth, to go with 12 pars. In the second round, she played a bogey-free front nine while draining birdies on the par-5 fifth and the sixth. After converting an eagle on the par-5 10th, she added birdies on the par-3 12th and par-4 14th to go with 11 pars.
 
Dueringer is two shots back of the lead entering the final round. Samford's Bailey Dunstan leads the field at 3-under-par 141 (72-69).
 
Senior Jahaanvie Walia is tied for 18th at 6-over-par 150 (74-76). Walia picked up first-round birdies on the par-4 15th and par-3 16th and sunk 12 pars on her way to 2-over-par 74. In the second round, she birdied the fifth and par-3 13th and mixed in 11 pars to finish at 4-over-par 76 for the round.
 
Sophomore Charlotte Fourdraine is also inside the Top-30, sitting 25th at 8-over-par 152 (78-74). In the first round, Fourdraine birdied the par-4 fourth, fifth, par-4 eighth and par-4 17th while picking up eight pars. She steadied out in the second round with just one birdie, on the par-4 11th, and 14 pars.
 
Sophomore Maria Garcia is at 13-over-par 157 (78-79) after two rounds. Garcia started on the third hole and birdied the 13th and par-4 first holes while making 11 pars. In the second round, she birdied the fifth hole and had nine pars.
 
Freshman Sara Haegglund, playing in her first collegiate tournament, has a two-round total of 167 (81-86). She birdied the 10th in the first round with nine pars and had 10 pars in the second round.
 
The final round of the Hoover Invitational tees off Tuesday morning.
