Warhawk Women Third After Day One at Bearkat Invite

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Led by two golfers in the Top 10, the ULM women's golf team is in third place following the first two rounds of the Bearkat Invitational Monday at Elkins Lake Country Club.
 
Junior Chantal Dueringer shot a first-day 1-over-par 143 (72-71) while sophomore Charlotte Fourdraine shot a 2-over-par 144 (75-69) to pace the Warhawks to a score of 18-over-par 586 (303-283). Host Sam Houston leads the field at 10-over-par 578 (287-291). Grand Canyon is second at 16-over-par 584 (291-293).
 
Dueringer is four shots back of the lead heading into the final round. She shot a 1-over-par 72 in the first round, with just one birdie but 15 pars. She hit even-par 71 in the second round, carding four birdies and 10 pars. Incarnate Word's Ellen Nicholas and Sam Houston's Zulaikah Nasser are co-leaders at 3-under-par 139.
 
Fourdraine is right behind her teammate and five shots off the lead. She had two birdies and 11 pars while shooting a 4-over-par 75 in the first round. She responded with a 2-under-par 69 in the second round, picking up four birdies, including three consecutive birdies from the 15th through 17th holes. She added 12 pars in the round.
 
Sophomore Maria Garcia is in 26th at 9-over-par 151 (79-72). Garcia had two birdies and 10 pars in the opening round but bounced back with six birdies and six pars in the second round, including three straight birdies from the 11th through the 13th.
 
Sophomore Line Petersen is 32nd at 153 (77-76). After picking up one birdie and 11 pars, she collected two birdies and 10 pars in the second round.
 
Sophomore Alessia Mengoni is 35th at 154 (83-71). She drained 12 pars in the first round before coming up with three birdies and 12 pars in the second round to move up the leaderboard.
 
The final round begins at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
