Warhawk Cross Country Set for SBC Championship

MONROE, La. – The ULM men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete at the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Championship at Graham Creek Nature Preserve in Foley, Alabama, on Friday. The women's 5K race begins at 4:02 p.m., while the men's 8K race is at 5 p.m., with coverage on ESPN+.
 
On the women's side, Paula Vaquera Cervantes leads the team with a season-best 5K time of 17:27.7, which she ran at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Sept. 30. Eliana Battle has also clocked a time under 19 minutes in her career, running in 18:56 in the 2020 ULM Warhawk Invitational in her collegiate debut.
 
Kimone Campbell and Jalynn Lozano have next two best times, with Campbell running the 5K in 19:12.5 at last year's SBC Championship and Lozano running in 19:16.7, also at last year's SBC Championship.
 
For the men, the top five 8K times on the team were all set with personal bests at the Arturo Barrios Invitational at Texas A&M on Oct. 15. Juwan Blignaut has ULM's top 8K time in 25:38.5. Rojs Puks also set his personal best in 26:18.1. Brayden Ortiz finished in a personal-best time of 26:28.9. Teddy Gowen finished in 26:58.4. Jay Parker also set a personal-best time in 28:42.4.
