Warhawk Golfers Sixth After First Day at Border Olympics

LAREDO, Texas – The ULM men's golf team is in sixth place following the opening two round of the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club.
 
The Warhawks shot 9-over-par 585 (287-298). Houston has a seven-shot lead on the field entering the final round at 9-under-par 567 (284-283). Sam Houston (285-289) and Baylor (288-286) are tied for second at 2-under-par 574.
 
Individually, ULM is led by junior Jacob Agerschou, who is tied for third at 5-under-par 139. Baylor's Johnny Keefer leads the field at 7-under-par 137 (68-69).
 
Agerschou shot a 4-under-par 68 in the first round followed by a 1-under-par 71 in the second round to reach 5-under-par 139. Starting on the sixth hole, in the first round he birdied the par-4 sixth, par-3 seventh, par-4 16th, par-5 17th and par-4 fourth while adding 11 pars. In the second round, he birdied the par-5 ninth, 16th, 17th and par-5 first holes to pair with 11 more pars.
 
Sophomore Melan Dhaubhadel is second on the team at 1-over-par 145 (70-75), good for 13th place. Starting on the seventh hole, he birdied the first, par-4 second and par-4 third to go with 14 pars to sit at 2-under-par 70. In his second 18, he birdied the ninth and 16th holes while adding 12 pars to finish at 3-over-par 75.
 
Junior Otto Van Buynder is right behind Dhaubhadel in 22nd place at 3-over-par 146 (71-75). He opened on the ninth hole and birdied the ninth, par-4 15th, first and sixth holes to go with 11 pars for the 1-under-par round at 71. In the second round, he birdied the par-5 13th, 16th and par-4 third to add with 10 pars to shoot 3-over-par 75.
 
Sophomore Cody Winkler is 77th after closing the first day at 14-over-par 158 (78-80). In his first round, he birdied the first hole and picked up 11 pars. In the second round, he birdied the ninth and first holes and added eight pars.
 
Freshman Theis Poulsen made his ULM debut on Monday and is 82nd at 159 (82-77). Starting on the seventh hole, he birdied the par-4 18th and added nine pars. In the second round, he birdied the ninth, par-4 11th and 15th holes and added eight pars.
 
The Warhawks wrap up the Border Olympics with the third and final round at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
