ULM Women’s Golf Finishes Fifth at Tchefuncta Invitational; Dueringer Places in Top 10

COVINGTON, La. – Behind a pair of Top 20 individual performances, the ULM women's golf team placed fifth at the Tchefuncta Invitational with a 61-over-par 913 for the 54-hole tournament that concluded Tuesday, Feb. 22. After posting back-to-back scores of 305 in the first two rounds, the Warhawks carded a 19-over 303 in the third round on the par-71, 6,044-yard Tchefuncta Country Club course to finish 10 shots behind fourth-place Little Rock (303-301-299 – 903).
 
"Although it wasn't the finish we were hoping to post this week, there are lots of positives that we will take away as a team moving forward," ULM women's golf coach Rachel Pollock said.  
 
Tournament host South Alabama captured the title in the nine-team field with 31-over-par 883 (302-288-293), followed by Southern Miss at 44-over 896 (296-306-294) and Incarnate Word at 48-over 900 (306-293-301)
 
ULM's Chantal Dueringer recorded her sixth career Top 10 finish, tying for ninth at 12-over-par 225 in the 53-player field. After producing opening-day scores of 77 and 75, Dueringer closed out the tournament with a 2-over 73. She opened the final round with seven consecutive pars before recording a birdie on the 12th hole, followed by three more pars. After a triple bogey on No. 16, Dueringer recovered to post pars on four of her next five holes and finished with a birdie at the fourth hole. Overall, she tallied 14 pars and two birdies Tuesday. Dueringer led the team and tied for fourth in the field with 37 pars to go along with five birdies over 54 holes.
 
"Chantal put together a near flawless final round today," Pollock said. "She showed a lot of consistency, fight and grit today, and I'm really proud of her performance and picking up another Top 10 finish."
 
Line Petersen posted her third career Top 20 performance, tying for 19th on the individual leaderboard with a 17-over-par 230 (78-74-78). Petersen's final-round score of 7-over 78 matched her first-round total. Her final-round scorecard featured 11 pars to go along with a birdie at the 11th hole. Petersen's tournament totals included 29 pars and five birdies.
 
Alessia Mengoni was ULM's biggest mover on Tuesday, climbing seven spots up the leaderboard thanks to her 5-over 76 to finish tied for 21st at 18-over 231. Mengoni recorded 11 pars and two birdies on the back nine at the 18th and sixth holes. Her tournament totals featured 30 pars and five birdies.
 
Charlotte Fourdraine (73-80-79) and Jahaanvie Walia (78-78-76), who finished tied for 27th on the individual leaderboard at 19-over-par 232, completed the ULM scorecard.
 
After posting consecutive rounds of 78 on the opening day, Walia carded a 5-over-par 76 in the final round to advance three places on the leaderboard. She totaled 11 pars and two birdies (16th and fifth holes) over the final 18 holes. On the back nine, Walia fired a 1-over 36, with six pars and a birdie. Her 32 pars over 54 holes ranked second on the team, behind only Dueringer.
 
Fourdraine shot an 8-over-par 79 in the third round, with 10 pars and two birdies (15th and 17th holes). She recorded 31 pars and a team-leading six birdies in the 54-hole tournament.
 
Maria Garcia, who competed as an individual in the tournament, placed 35th at 22-over-par 235 (80-74-81). Garcia posted a 10-over 81 in the final round, with nine pars. Her 54-hole totals included 30 pars and three birdies.
 
Next, the ULM women's golf team travels to Oahu, Hawaii, for the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, scheduled for March 7-8.
