ULM Men’s Golf Tied for Seventh After Opening Round of Desert Mountain Collegiate

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – With two players listed inside the Top 20 on the individual leaderboard after 18 holes Saturday, March 5, ULM completed the first round of the Desert Mountain Collegiate tied for seventh in the team standings at 3-over-par 291. The Warhawks are just five shots behind third-place Little Rock (2-under-par 286).
 
No. 48 Mississippi State led the 16-team field at 12-under-par 276, followed by Arkansas State at 8-under 280.
 
Second-round play was suspended Saturday due to darkness. Play will resume Sunday, March 6 at 7:40 a.m. MT with the completion of the second round, followed immediately by the third and final round.
 
ULM's Jacob Agerschou finished the opening round tied for 10th with six other players at 2-under-par 70, five strokes behind the leader, Mississippi State's Ford Clegg (7-under 65). Agerschou recorded birdies on four of the first nine holes (No. 5, 7, 11, 13 and 4). He totaled five birdies and 11 pars through the first 18 holes.
 
Cody Winkler, who fired a 1-under 70, was tied with 13 other golfers for 17th place. Winkler posted an eagle at the 538-yard ninth hole to go along with five birdies, including three in a row at the 14th, 15th and 16th holes, and eight pars.
 
Otto Van Buynder carded a 2-over-par 74 in the first round, good for a six-way tie for 45th. Van Buynder completed the round with 12 pars, with seven of those coming over his first nine holes including six in a row from No. 8-13. He began his back nine with a birdie at the 16th hole and finished his round with another birdie at No. 6.
 
Mikkel Schmitt shot an opening-round 4-over-par 76, tied for 56th with seventh other players. Schmitt produced two birdies (eighth and 13th holes) and four pars on his front nine and managed six more pars on his back nine.
 
Michael Gilbert completed ULM's scorecard with a 12-over 84. Gilbert delivered two birdies (11th and 16th holes) and four pars on his front nine. His back nine included three more pars and another birdie at the second hole.
