'Ewa Beach, Hawaii – With three players placing inside the Top 25 on the individual leaderboard, the ULM women's golf team finished fourth in the 10-team field with a 38-over-par 902 (297-299-306) at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational. As a team, the Warhawks shot an 18-over-par 306 in the third round at the par-72, 6,123-yard course at the Hoakalei Country Club on Tuesday, March 8.

Only six strokes separated the top three teams on the leaderboard as Sacramento State captured the title with a 21-over-par 885 (306-285-294) after firing a 6-over 294 in the final round. Tournament-host Hawaii finished five shots back at 26-over 890 (292-298-300), followed by California Baptist at 27-over 891 (292-301-298).

The Warhawks led the 10-team field in par-5 scoring with a minus-4. As a team, ULM amassed 31 birdies and 161 pars over the 54 holes.

"As a team, I know we came close to clinching second place but dropped a few shots back at the end," ULM women's golf coach Rachel Pollock said. "We know what we have to work on moving into our next event, but we're going to take all the positives from our performance in Hawaii this week."

ULM's Alessia Mengoni recorded her career-best finish, tying for third at 3-over-par 219 (70-75-74), just two shots behind the individual medalist, California Baptist's Jocelyn Chee Yi Min who carded a 1-over 217 (67-75-75), and one stroke behind Sacramento State's Tess Blair, who claimed second with a 2-over 218 (74-71-73).

It marked Mengoni's third career Top 10 performance. She posted a 2-over-par 74 in the final round, including an even-par 36 on the front nine with three birdies (second, fifth and ninth holes) and three pars. Mengoni managed a 2-over 38 on the back nine, with eight pars and a double bogey at No. 16. Her 54-hole totals featured an eagle, seven birdies and a team-best 36 pars. Mengoni's score of minus-6 on par-5s led the 57-player field.

"I'm really proud of Alessia for how she played and handled herself this week," Pollock said. "She played consistent golf over the last two days and I know she's going to break through and come out on top this semester." Â

Only seven shots separate ULM's next four golfers on the individual leaderboard.

Line Petersen (76-75-76) tied Long Beach State's Angelina Kim (79-73-75) for 20th place at 11-over-par 227.

Petersen carded a 4-over 76 in the third round, including 12 pars. She birdied the ninth hole, then strung together six consecutive pars. Her tournament totals included five birdies and 33 pars.

After shooting a 3-over-par 75 in the final round, Charlotte Fourdraine climbed seven spots on the individual leaderboard into a five-way tie for 22nd at 12-over 228 (77-76-75). Fourdraine produced three birdies (10th, 13th and second holes) and 11 pars over the final 18 holes. Her tournament totals included five birdies and 35 pars.

Jahaanvie Walia shot a 9-over-par 81 on Tuesday to finish in a five-way tie for 37th at 17-over 233 (79-73-81). Walia tallied three birdies (sixth, ninth and 12th) and seven pars in the final round. Her 54-hole totals included a team-high eight birdies and 27 pars.

Chantal Dueringer posted a 10-over-par 82 in the final round and completed the 54-hole tournament at 18-over 234 (74-78-82), good for a four-way tie for 42nd. Dueringer delivered two birdies (ninth and first holes) and 8 pars. She finished the tournament with six birdies and 30 pars.

After a 12-day break, ULM returns to action at the Bama Beach Bash, hosted by South Alabama, scheduled for March 20-22 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
