ULM Men's Golf Set for SBC Championship at Mystic Creek

MONROE, La. – The ULM men's golf team opens play in the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Championship Sunday at Mystic Creek Golf Club in El Dorado, Arkansas, Sunday morning. The tournament consists of three rounds played over three days, with the top four teams in the 54-hole stroke play advancing to match play semifinals on Wednesday.
 
ULM is seeded fifth and is paired with Arkansas State and the Ragin' Cajuns on Sunday. The first trios will tee off from the 10th tee at 8:30 a.m. The Warhawks have reached match play in each of the last two SBC Championships in 2019 and 2021.
 
Mystic Creek is a par-72, 7,181-yard layout. The club opened in 2013 and was constructed in rolling timberlands near El Dorado. The course features cathedral pines, high flashing bunkers and domed greens.
 
ULM is slated to play with a lineup featuring Otto Van Buynder, Jacob Agerschou, Cody Winkler, Melan Dhaubhadel and Mikkel Schmitt with Michael Gilbert traveling as an alternate.
 
Van Buynder has played in eight tournaments this year with one Top-10 finish and four Top-25 finishes. He tied for second at the Desert Mountain Collegiate, shooting 1-under-par 215 thanks to a 4-under-par final round 68 (74-73-68). He is coming off tying for 12th at the Mossy Oak Collegiate at 2-under-par 216 (69-73-72). He is tied for second on the team with 73.35 scoring average. He leads the team in par-4 scoring (4.13), eagles (5), subpar strokes per round (3.57), double bogeys per round (0.30), average putts (30.80), putts on greens in regulation (1.847), non-sand up and downs (.671), sand saves (.565) and total short game (.646).
 
Agerschou has played in eight tournaments this year with one Top-10 finish and three Top-25 finishes. He tied for sixth at even-par 216 (68-71-77) at the Border Olympics. He shot a 1-under-par 215 at the Graeme McDowell Invitational (78-68-69). He is tied for second on the team with a 73.35 scoring average. He leads the team in first round average (73.25), par-3 scoring (3.12), pars per round (10.87), bogeys per round (3.39), fairways hit (.668), putting par (0.60), greens in regulation (.686), greens-in-regulation within 15 feet (.483) and three-putt holes (1.05).
 
Winkler has played in eight tournaments this season with one Top-10 finish and five Top-25 finishes. He tied for sixth at the Little Rock Invitational at 2-under-par 214 (70-73-71). His best score came at the season-opening Jim Rivers Intercollegiate where he shot 3-under-par 213 (74-69-70). He leads the team with a 73.26 scoring average. He also leads the team in last round average (71.88), par-5 scoring (4.66), birdies (77) and birdie conversion (.282).
 
Dhaubhadel has battled injuries to play in five tournaments this season with one Top-10 finish and three Top-25 finishes. He was fourth at the Little Rock Invitational at a season-low 5-under-par 211 (72-71-68). He is fourth on the team with a 73.36 scoring average.
 
Schmitt has played in five tournaments this season with a 74.87 scoring average. He shot a career-low 218 (74-71-73) and tied for 28th at the Graeme McDowell Invitational. Last year, he opened the SBC Championship at Mystic Creek with a career-low 66 in the opening round and finished in ninth place at 11-over-par 227 (66-85-76).
 
Gilbert has played in three tournaments this season, with his best showing at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate where he shot 13-over-par 229 (78-71-80). He has a 77.11 scoring average.
