Warhawk Tennis Concludes Regular Season Against UTA, Texas State

MONROE, La. – The ULM tennis team closes out the regular season with a pair of home matches, taking on UT Arlington at 10 a.m. Saturday and Texas State at 10 a.m. Sunday, both at Heard Stadium.
 
The Warhawks will honor three seniors in a ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Sunday: Jimena Paula Garbino, Brianna Gomez and Madalina Grigoriu.
 
The Warhawks are 6-10 overall and 3-5 in the Sun Belt Conference after falling at Coastal Carolina, 4-1, and App State, 4-0, last week. Alessandra Anghel earned ULM's only point at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Coastal's Mathilde Tranberg on Friday.
 
Hala Badwy continues to lead ULM in singles play with a 9-6 record this season. She is 7-5 at No. 1 singles. Oleksandra Balaba is 3-1 in limited action in singles, including a 2-1 record at No. 3 singles. Grigoriu and Giovanna Pereira have the most doubles wins, pairing up for three victories, all at No. 2 doubles.
 
UTA is 18-2 overall and 6-1 in SBC play. The Mavericks have swept four of their seven SBC matches, defeating App State, 3-0, South Alabama, 4-0, Troy, 4-0, and Georgia Southern, 4-0, in sweeps. The Mavericks bounced back from their first SBC loss on the season, 4-2 vs. Georgia State on Sunday, to defeat North Texas, 4-3, on Wednesday. While the Mavericks have struggled at the top of the singles lineup with a 7-9 combined record on court one, they have dominated down the lineup, going 15-0 on court four, 16-2 on court five and 17-1 on court six. UTA has a combined team record of 45-26 in doubles play.
 
Texas State is 4-14 overall and 1-7 in SBC play. The Bobcats have lost seven consecutive matches, dating back to a 4-3 win over Gonzaga on March 12 in San Marcos. Texas State dropped both matches this past weekend to Georgia State and Georgia Southern, both by 4-2 scores. The Bobcats picked up their only SBC win over Arkansas State, 5-2, back on March 4 in Jonesboro.
