MONROE, La. – Eunice Ilunga Mbuyi was named All-Louisiana Women's Co-Freshman of the Year, headlining eight Warhawks on the All-Louisiana track and field team, announced by the Louisiana Sports Writers' Association on Friday.
The top honors were selected on a vote of track and field media relations members from the state schools and voted on by that group. Voters could not vote for nominees from their specific schools.
There is also a top three selected from each track and field event this outdoor season based on the national best times list and supplemented by the best times list from the schools where needed.
Mbuyi, who shared All-Louisiana Women's Freshman of the Year honors with Dillard's Kevell Byrd, was All-Louisiana in both the women's long jump and triple jump. Her triple jump distance of 43-5 3/4 was best in the state, while her long jump distance of 20-2 1/2 tied for third best.
Hannah Blood was the only other Warhawk with the best mark in the state with a heave of 199-3 in the hammer throw to take All-Louisiana honors.
Ali Eren Unlu earned All-Louisiana honors in the men's high jump, clearing the second-best height of 7-0 1/4. The women's 4x400 meter relay team of
Brittney Roberson,
Jasmine Williams,
Kimone Campbell and
Fiebe Tengrootenhuysen was also second in the state in a school-record time of 3:41.87.
Five Warhawks, including Ilunga Mbuyi, had the third-best marks in the state to pick up All-Louisiana selections. On the men's side,
Jakob Fudge (hammer throw, 195-3),
Cole McKnight (javelin, 220-2) and
Bailey Couch (decathlon, 6,263 points) earned the honors on the men's side while
Brianna Sam had the third-best mark in the women's hammer at 178-5.
