NATCHITOCHES, La. – Alice Klinteby is in the finals of the Purple Singles Draw and the doubles team of
Oleksandra Balaba and
Giovanna Pereira is in the semifinals of the Purple Doubles Draw after the first day of the Lady Demon Collegiate Invitational at Northwestern State.
Klinteby reached the finals with a 1-6, 7-5, 12-10 win over the Ragin' Cajuns' Carla Urchoeguia in the quarterfinals and Southern Miss' Suhana Das, 6-4, 7-5, in the semifinals. She will face Northwestern State's Ayu Ishibashi in the championship at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
In the Black Singles Draw, Balaba lost twice. She dropped her quarterfinal decision to NSU's Paige Wise (6-2, 6-1) before falling in the consolation semifinals to New Orleans' Tristanne Dechoux (6-2, 6-2). Balaba will face Stephen F. Austin's Zala Ule at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Giovanna Pereira plays for third in the Orange Singles Draw Saturday morning. She defeated SFA's Jemma Cave (6-3, 6-3) in the quarterfinals before falling to the Cajuns' Angeligue Berrat (7-6 [3], 6-3) in the semifinals. She will play UNO's Didi Bredberg-Canizares in the third-place match at 10 a.m. Saturday.
In the White Singles Draw,
Tamara Bachmann plays for fifth after falling in the opening round to NSU's Thitirat Kanaphuet (6-0, 6-1). She picked up an injury default decision in the consolation semifinals against Tyler Junior College's Beyza Yaniklar to reach the fifth-place match against UNO's Laurie Barendse at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
In the Grey Singles Draw,
Mackenzie King dropped her two matches on Friday, falling to SFA's Carolina Chiatti (6-1, 6-4) and UNO's Ksenia Reznitskaya (6-3, 6-1).
In doubles play, Balaba and Pereira defeated UNO's Ana Kouchnavera and Barendse, 6-1. The duo will face Southern Miss' Maddison Ricardo and Alyssa Richter at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the semifinals.
ULM's team of Klinteby and Bachmann lost their opening round doubles match in the Black Doubles Draw to NSU's Dorota Szczygielska and Ishibashi, 6-2. King is playing doubles with the Cajuns' Laure Line Monnoyer. The pair lost to SFA's Cave and Felicia Back, 6-1, on Friday. Klinteby and Bachmann will square off with King and Monnoyer at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
