MONROE, La. – The ULM women's cross country team picked up the team championship while the men were second at the Warhawk Invitational at Charles Johnson Children's Park.

"Both the men and the women opened up their racing season today against some quality teams, and I am happy with the win on the women's side and the runner-up effort on the men's," ULM cross country coach
David Silversmith said. "We handled the weather, course, and competition well for the first true race of 2022. The fans of Warhawk Cross Country should be very excited for the remainder of this season. It's going to be a good one."

The women placed four runners inside the Top 10 and all five scoring runners inside the Top 13 for 31 points, edging out the Ragin' Cajuns at 33 points.

Paula Vaquera Cervantes led the way in second place in the 5K race at 18:40.0.
Eliana Battle followed closely behind in third in 19:02.0.
Kimone Campbell claimed fifth in 19:16.0.
Jalynn Lozano picked up eighth place at 19:44.0.
Anna Naff wrapped up the team scoring in 13th in 20:28.0.

Also competing for ULM,
Ansley Long was 16th in 20:59.0.

The men placed three runners inside the Top 10 and totaled 54 points. The Ragin' Cajuns won the men's race with 29 points.

Juwan Blignaut led ULM in second place in the 7K race at 21:43.0.
Rojs Puks finished fifth in 22:21.0.
Brayden Ortiz was eighth in 22:28.0.
Teddy Gowen placed 19th in 23:22.
Jay Parker wrapped the team scoring in 27th in 24:04.

Also competing for ULM, Jaylen Wade was 41st in 26:20 and
Reid Guirlando was 43rd in 27:47.

The Warhawks are back in action on Sept. 30 at the Chile Pepper Festival at Arkansas.
