HOUSTON – Ali Eren Unlu won his second meet of the season in the men's high jump, while
Eunice Ilunga Mbuyi was second in the women's triple jump and
Olaia Becerril Alvarez was third in the long jump at Friday's Houston Invitational.
Unlu won by 2 3/4 inches, clearing 7-1. He has cleared over seven feet in all three meets this season. He leads the Sun Belt Conference with a season-best leap clearing 7-2 1/2 at the LSU Purple Tiger on Jan. 13. He leads the SBC by 3 3/4 inches.
Jay Louison-Roe was eighth in the triple jump for the men at 47-0 3/4. He opened his season with a mark of 49-4 1/4 last week to rank fourth overall in the SBC.
For the women, Mbuyi finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 41-9 3/4. She leads the Sun Belt by half an inch with a jump of 42-0 1/2 at the Vanderbilt Invitational last week.
Also in the women's triple jump,
Lisa Warfvinge was third at 40-9 1/2 for a new personal record. She ranks fourth in the SBC.
In the women's long jump,
Olaia Becerril Alvarez was third at 19-5 1/4. She currently ranks fourth in the SBC with her jump of 19-8 1/4 at last week's Vanderbilt Invitational.
Nasya Ramirez was ninth at Houston in the long jump at 18-7. Her mark of 19-2 at the Vanderbilt Invitational ranks her seventh in the SBC.
Claudine Raud-Gumiel set a personal record in the long jump at 18-3 1/4, while
Savanna Lawson rounded out the results by leaping 17-8 in the long jump.
The Warhawks take a week off before returning at the Music City Challenge at Vanderbilt on Feb. 10-11 and the Samford Bulldog Invite on Feb. 11.
