ULM Tennis Holds Off Missouri State, 4-3

MONROE, La. – The ULM tennis team won its first dual of the 2023 spring season, defeating Missouri State, 4-3, at Heard Stadium on Friday afternoon. It also marked the first win for ULM tennis coach Ivone Alvaro.
 
ULM won the doubles point. Alessandra Anghel and Alice Klinteby defeated Missouri State's Mary Houston and Tiera Jarmond at No. 1 doubles, 6-3. Missouri State tied up the point at No. 2, as Diana Cabrera and Alyson Piskulic defeated Tamara Bachmann and Oleksandra Balaba, 6-3. The Warhawks took the doubles point at the No. 3 position, as Mackenzie King and Giovanna Pereira knocked off Sandra Lukacova and Juliette Robinson, 6-4.
 
The match came down to the final singles match. ULM took a 2-0 lead as Balaba won against Jarmond at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Missouri State picked up its first point at No. 6 singles, where Piskulic defeated Bachmann, 6-0, 6-1.
 
The Warhawks expanded the lead back to two, 3-1, at No. 3 singles as Klinteby won against Robinson, 6-1, 6-2. However, Missouri State won the next two points to tie up the match as Lukacova topped King, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles and Cabrera defeated Anghel at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4.
 
ULM claimed the match as Pereira won in three sets against Houston at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 4-6, 6-0.
 
The Warhawks return to action at noon on Sunday at Houston.
