Poyner Expects 'Significant Growth' after Cross Country's Showing at Crimson Classic

Cross Country
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ULM Head Cross Country Coach Jacob Poyner expects 'significant growth' from the Warhawks after his teams' showing Friday at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The men's team finished 18th out of 21 teams. Freshman Carlo Martinez-Jaramillo finished in the top 75 runners with a time of 25:06.0 in the 8,018-meter run. Freshman Chase Gunn finished in 26:07.3 and Junior Juwan Blignaut ran the course in 26:20.0.

The women's team finished 22nd place. Senior Kimone Campbell placed in the top 100 with a time of 21:51.1 on the 5,846-meter course. Junior Eliana Battle finished in 22:05.1 and Ansley Long ran a 22:39.8.

"This was a necessary day for both teams' development," Poyner said. "While we were dealing with some illness, we also made some tactical mistakes early on, and we ultimately were not quite ready for the competitive goals we set before the race.

"We expect significant growth from this experience," Poyner continued, "and plan to continue bringing our current best to the table on race day."

The Warhawks return to action in the Sun Belt Conference Championship at Foley, Alabama, on Saturday, October 28, at 10 a.m.
