FOLEY, Ala. – The ULM men's cross country team finished third and the women placed 10th at the Sun Belt Conference Championships Saturday at Graham Creek Nature Preserve.
The third-place finish for the men marks the highest placing in the program's SBC history.
"Often times, competitive opportunities like these are mixed bags," head coach Jake Poyner said. "We're really proud of both squads for the ways they've worked together this year to bring their best to the table."
Freshman Carlo Martinez-Jaramillo continues his breakout year. He placed eighth overall with a 25:15.4 in the men's 8k. He was also named Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and was named Second Team All-Conference.
Juwan Blignaut and
Teddy Gowen also placed in the Top 25.
"The men had one of those days that you dream about," Poyner said. "They got out hard, found their spots, didn't look back and battled for every point."
For the women,
Kimone Campbell finished in 19th place and
Eliana Battle placed 21
st.
"I commend our two seniors Kimone & Eliana for both racing well and finishing within the Top 25," Poyner said. "We'll look at our training and we'll debrief on what we can do better next year."
The NCAA South Central Regional takes place on November 10 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
