BATON ROUGE, La. – The ULM tennis team traveled to Baton Rouge Oct. 6-7 to compete in the ITA Women's Southern Regional Championship.
In the singles qualifying round of 64, sophomore
Angela Del Campo Suarez defeated Carla Bouygues from Nicholls State, 6-4, 1-6, 11-9. Freshman
Mariam Hatem beat Maria Wang Martinez in three sets, 7-6 (5), 5-7, 10-8. Freshman
Mackenzie King lost in two sets to Gabrielle Henderson from Alabama A&M, 6-3, 6-4. Junior
Giovanna Pereira lost in three sets to Gabrielle Leslie of Troy, 7-6 (5), 5-7, 10-4.
In the round of 32, Del Campo lost a roller-coaster match to Manal Ennaciri from South Alabama, 0-6, 6-1, 10-3. Hatem was defeated in two sets by Marta Serra from North Alabama, 6-4, 6-0.
Alice Klinteby, a freshman from Sweden, was the only player to play in the main singles draw. She lost in two sets to Florentine Dekkers from LSU, 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles qualifying, King and Hatem lost to Ennaciri and Otoha Aoki, 8-3. Pereira and
Tamara Bachmann were defeated by Arina Gamretkaia and Anastasija Adeikyte from McNeese State, 8-1. Klinteby and Del Campo lost 8-6 to Irene Artigas Taberner and Dariana Prato from Jacksonville State.
The Warhawks travel to Southern Miss later this month to compete in the Golden Eagle Fall Invitational. The meet will take place on Friday, October 27 and Saturday, October 28.
