ULM Women’s Golf Surges into Seventh Place at Sea Best Intercollegiate

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The ULM women's golf team fired a final-round 8-over par 296 – its low round of the tournament – and surged three spots into seventh place on the leaderboard at 44-over 908 on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at the Sea Best Intercollegiate, which was played at the par-72, 6,084-yard San Jose Country Club. It marked the Warhawks' sixth consecutive Top 10 finish during the 2022-23 season.
 
After posting scores of 21-over 309 and 15-over 303 in the first two rounds, ULM saved its best for the final 18 holes, shaving seven strokes of its second-round total. As a team, the Warhawks combined to record 35 birdies, the second-highest total in the 14-team field, trailing only Campbell (37). ULM also produced the second-best scoring average on the par-5 holes at 5.08 (+5).
 
"I'm proud of the way the girls bounced back today," ULM head women's golf coach Rachel Pollock said. "We adjusted our game plan, fixed our mental errors from yesterday and climbed three spots on the leaderboard."
 
Campbell shot a 1-over 289 in the third round to overcome a two-stroke deficit and claim the team title with a 26-over 890. FIU slipped one place into second in the final team standings at 29-over 893 while Cincinnati held onto the third position at 33-over 897.
 
ULM's top four scorers were separated by just nine shots.
 
Freshman Johanna Sjursen recorded her third Top-20 finish of the season, tying for 17th place at 9-over 225 (79-72-74). Sjursen carded a 2-over 74 in the final round, with two birdies (17th and ninth holes) and 12 pars. She started the third round with five consecutive pars and finished with four-straight pars, a birdie at No. 9 and another par on the 10th and final hole. Her 54-hole totals included nine birdies and 31 pars. Sjursen's nine birdies tied for the third-highest total in the 75-player field.
 
Senior Chantal Dueringer made the biggest jump in the individual standings, rocketing 32 places into a tie for 26th at 11-over 227, thanks to her final-round score for 3-under-par 69. She opened the third round with six pars in a row, then proceeded to deliver five birdies (second, third, seventh, eighth and 13th holes) and six more pars. The only blemish on her third-round scoreboard was a double bogey at No. 12. Dueringer's 54 hole totals featured eight birdies and a team-leading 34 pars.
 
"Chantal came into today with some fire," Pollock said. "She hit 17 of 18 greens today and really capitalized by making putts. I'm really proud of how she was able to put the first day behind her, show up with a clean slate today and play how she's capable of playing."
 
Junior Alessia Mengoni shot a 4-over 76 over the final 18 holes to finished tied for 37th at 14-over 230 (77-77-76). Mengoni made two birdies (12th and 10th holes) and 11 pars in the final round. Her 54-hole totals included seven birdies and 30 pars.
 
Freshman Anna Andrysova, who bounced back from an inconsistent second round, fired a 5-over 77 in the third round and moved up nine places into a tie for 45th at 18-over 234 (73-84-77). Her final-round scorecard included two birdies (17th and seventh holes) and 10 pars. Andrysova's 54-hole totals featured seven birdies and 25 pars.
 
Sophomore Sara Hagglund carded a 10-over 82 in the final round and finished tied for 60th at 22-over 238. Hagglund managed nine pars in the third round. Her 54-hole totals included four birdies and 26 pars.
 
ULM returns to action in two weeks, traveling to the GCU Invitational, scheduled for Feb. 27-28, in Phoenix, Arizona.
