ALBUQUERQUE – ULM sophomore high jumper
Ali Eren Unlu became the first Indoor Track & Field All-American for the Warhawks since 2018 by tying for seventh place at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Unlu earned First-Team All-American honors by clearing 7-1 3/4 (2.18 meters) on his third attempt to tie for seventh place along with Wichita State's Brady Palen, Nebraska's Mayson Conner and Missouri's Roberto Vilches. Unlu was unable to clear 7-3 in three attempts to remain in the competition.
He cleared 6-10 3/4 (2.10 meters) and 7-0 1/2 (2.15 meters) on his first attempt at each height.
South Florida's Romaine Beckford won the indoor high jump national championship by clearing 7-4 1/4 (2.24 meters).
Unlu is ULM's first All-American since Alton Clay finished as national runner-up in the weight throw in 2018.
ULM begins the outdoor season at the Louisiana Classics on Friday in Lafayette.
