HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The ULM women's tennis team lost its Sun Belt Conference opener Saturday at Marshall, 6-1.
The Thundering Herd (6-4 overall, 1-0 Sun Belt Conference) won the doubles point to open the match. Aisling McGrane and Sophia Hurrion of Marshall beat ULM's
Oleksandra Balaba and
Giovanna Pereira, 6-2, on court two, while MU's Emma Vanderheyden and Johanna Strom followed with a 6-3 win on court one over ULM's
Alessandra Anghel and
Angela Del Campo Suarez to claim the point.
In singles play, Marshall claimed a 2-0 lead on court three as Doroteja Jackson defeated
Alice Klinteby, 6-3, 6-0. The Thundering Herd moved to the brink of the victory on court one as Vanderheyden beat Anghel, 6-2, 6-2. Marshall then claimed the dual victory on court two, as Strom bested Balaba, 6-2, 6-2, for the 4-0 lead.
ULM (2-10, 0-1) picked up its only win on court five, as Pereira won against Rieke Gillar, 1-6, 7-5, 10-4. Marshall took the other two singles matches, as McGrane won over Del Campo Suarez, 6-4, 7-6, on court four and Hurrion defeated
Mariam Hatem, 6-1, 6-0, on court six.
ULM faces App State at 10 a.m. EDT/9 a.m. CDT Sunday in Boone, North Carolina.
