ULM Women’s Golf Finishes Second at HCU Husky Invitational

SUGAR LAND, Texas – The ULM women's golf team carded a 14-over-par 302 in the third round Tuesday, March 14 to finish second in the HCU Husky Invitational with a 54-hole score of 37-over 901. It marked ULM's eighth consecutive Top 10 finish of the 2022-23 season.
 
Sam Houston, ranked No. 51 in NCAA Division I according to Golfstat, shot an even-par 288 in the final round and finished atop the team leaderboard at 16-over 880. No. 98-ranked Warhawks claimed second, one shot ahead of tournament-host HCU, who posted a 54-hole score of 38-over 902.
 
As a team, ULM ranked third in the field in both birdies (28) and pars (165). In addition, the Warhawks finished near the top of the field in par-3 scoring (tied for second at 3.30; +18), par-4 scoring (second at 4.23; +39) and par-5 scoring (third at 5.10; +6).
 
HCU's Elise Parel captured the individual title, finishing at even-par 216 (74-70-72).
 
ULM's top individual performance was Chantal Dueringer, who fired a 1-over 73 Tuesday – her low round of the tournament – to finish in a three-way tie for fourth at 6-over 222, six strokes behind the tournament champion. Dueringer recorded three birdies (first, fifth and 18th holes) and 11 pars, including seven in a row during one stretch on the back nine, in the third round. Her 54-hole totals featured seven birdies and 36 pars, which tied for the fifth-highest total in the 78-player field. It marked Dueringer's fifth Top 10 finish of the season and 13th of her career.
 
Two more Warhawks – Anna Andrysova and Johanna Sjursen – finished just outside the Top 10, tying for 11th place at 9-over 225.
 
Andrysova carded a 6-over 78 in the third round, including a birdie and 11 pars. After shooting 6-over on the front nine, she birdied the 10th hole and followed with seven-straight pars before a bogey at No. 18. Her 54-hole totals included five birdies and 36 pars, which tied Dueringer for the team lead.
 
Sjursen tallied four birdies (seventh, 11th, 15th and 18th) and six pars en route to a final-round 5-over 77. Her 54-hole totals included a team-leading nine birdies and 28 pars. It marked Sjursen's fifth Top 20 finish of her freshman season, including her third-straight this spring.
 
Sara Hagglund finished in a three-way tie for 30th at 16-over 232 after shooting a 5-over 77 in the third round. Hagglund managed 11 pars to go along with a birdie (18th hole) Tuesday. Her 54-hole totals included three birdies and 35 pars.
 
Alessia Mengoni was ULM's biggest mover on Tuesday, climbing 16 spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 37th at 19-over 235 after carding a 3-over 75 in the final round. Her lowest round of the tournament featured back-to-back birdies on the 10th and 11th holes to go along with 11 pars. Mengoni's 54-hole totals included five birdies and 30 pars.
 
ULM has a brief break before traveling to Gulf Shores, Alabama, for the Bama Beach Bash, scheduled for Sunday, March 19-Tuesday, March 21. South Alabama will serve as the tournament host at the Gulf Shores Country Club.
