Bama Beach Bash [First-Round Results]

GULF SHORES, Ala. – After 18 holes, the ULM women's golf team sits atop the team leaderboard at the Bama Beach Bash with a 12-over-par score of 300, three strokes ahead of Little Rock and Oral Roberts, which are tied for second place at 15-over 303. Only six shots separate the top five in the 15-team field.

With a temperature of 45 and winds gusting from 16-to-28 mph, ULM teed off with the first group at 9 a.m.

"These were the hardest conditions we've faced all year," ULM head coach Rachel Pollock said. "It was freezing cold and 20 mph winds this morning. We were faced with a really difficult start but stayed patient and really grinded today. I'm so proud of how we handled the controllables today, and we're going to have to continue to do that for the next two days."

ULM's Chantal Dueringer, who became the only participant in the 81-player field to record a subpar round on Sunday, finished at 2-under-par 70 – two shots ahead of Oral Roberts' Kate Strickland, who
carded an even-par 72. Only five strokes separate the Top 16 players on the individual leaderboard.

Dueringer's front nine was highlighted back-to-back birdies at the fourth and fifth holes to go along an eagle at the par-5, 463-yard ninth hole. She started the back nine for four consecutive pars, followed by her third birdie of the round at the 14th hole and closed out the first round with four-straight pars. Her first-round score included 11 pars. Dueringer led the field in par-5 scoring at 4.40 (3-under) and tied for second in par-4 scoring at even par (4.0).

"Chantal played amazing in these conditions," Pollock said. "Her experience on this golf course really showed today."

Two Warhawks – Johanna Sjursen and Sara Hagglund – completed the first round just outside the Top 10, tied for 11th place at 3-over 75.

Sjursen fired a 1-over 37 on the front nine with four pars and two birdies and followed with a 2-over 38 on the back nine with seven pars, including five in a row to conclude the round.

Hagglund carded a 3-over 39 on the front nine with seven pars and followed with an even-par 36 on the back nine, including consecutive birdies at the 14th and 15th holes and six pars. Her 13 pars in the opening round led the team and ranked third in the field.

Anna Andrysova finds herself just four shots outside the Top 20 after shooting an 8-over 80 in the first round, tied with 11 other golfers for 42nd place. Andrysova managed three birdies (seventh, ninth and 12th holes) and six pars while posting identical 4-over 40s on the front and back nine.

Alessia Mengoni is locked in a four-way tied for 62nd place at 11-over 83. Mengoni tallied nine pars in the opening round.

For the second round, ULM will tee off with the final group (South Alabama and Colorado State), between 9:30-10 a.m. on Monday, March 20.
