SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The ULM men's golf team is in seventh place following the first round of the Desert Mountain Collegiate Saturday at the Desert Mountain Outlaw Course. The second round was suspended due to darkness.
ULM shot a 7-over-par 295 in the first round. Mississippi State leads the field after the first round at 5-under-par 283, while Lipscomb and Santa Clara are tied for second at even-par 288.
Melan Dhaubhadel leads the Warhawks, finishing the first round in a tie for ninth place at 1-under-par 71. Opening on the third hole, he birdied the par-4 fifth, par-4 seventh, par-4 10th, par-4 14th, par-4 first and par-5 second holes to go with nine pars.
Otto Van Buynder is second on the team at 1-over-par 73, which is tied for 25th overall. Opening on the second hole, he birdied the fifth, seventh and par-4 17th holes and added 11 pars.
Javier Balbastre is third on the team and tied for 43rd overall at 3-over-par 75. Starting on the third hole, he birdied the fifth, 10th and par-5 16th holes and had 10 pars.
Theis Poulsen wrapped up the team scoring in round one at 4-over-par 76 to tie for 54th. Starting on the third hole, he birdied the par-4 third, 14th and second holes and picked up 11 pars.
Hayes Hamilton is tied for 66th overall at 5-over-par 77. Opening on the third hole, he birdied the 10th and first holes and had 11 pars.
Teams are scheduled to wrap up the second round and play the third and final round starting at 9 a.m. CST/8 a.m. MST Sunday morning.
