Warhawks Finish Ninth at Desert Mountain Collegiate

FINAL RESULTS

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The ULM men's golf team finished in a tie for ninth place at the Desert Mountain Collegiate at the Desert Mountain Outlaw Course on Sunday.
 
ULM shot 6-over-par 294 in the second round, but closed with a 307 to finish at 32-over-par 896 (295-294-307). No. 22 Mississippi State won the team title at 2-over-par 866 (283-293-290). MSU's Ruan Pretorius won the individual title at 8-under-par 208 (68-70-70).
 
The Warhawks were led by Melan Dhaubhadel's seventh place showing. He shot even-par 72 in the second round and 3-over-par 75 in the final round to close at 2-over-par 218 (71-72-75). He started each of the final two rounds on the third hole. In the second round, he had birdies on the par-4 third, par-3 fourth, par-4 seventh, par-4 10th, par-5 16th, par-4 17th and par-4 first while adding six pars. In the final round, he birdied the third and par-4 14th holes and added 11 pars.
 
Javier Balbastre finished second on the team in 28th place. He shot a 2-over-par 74 in both the second and third rounds to finish at 7-over-par 223 (75-74-74) for the tournament. He opened with the third hole in each round. In the second round, he birdied the par-5 13th and 16th holes and had 12 pars. In the final round, he picked up birdies on the third, fourth, par-4 fifth and par-4 eighth holes and had eight pars.
 
Otto Van Buynder shot an even-par 72 in the second round before finishing with a 9-over-par 81 in the final round to close at 10-over-par 226 (73-72-81) for the tournament to tie for 41st. He started each round on the second hold. He had an eagle on the 13th and a birdie on the 16th in the second round to go with 13 pars before adding a birdie on the 13th and eight pars in the final round.
 
Theis Poulsen shot four-over-par 76 and five-over-par 77 in the final two rounds to close at 13-over-par 229 (76-76-77) to tie for 52nd. He started on the third hole in both rounds. He picked up birdies on the fifth, 16th and 17th holes and added 10 pars in the second round before adding a birdie on the par-4 18th to go with 12 pars in the final round.
 
Hayes Hamilton shot a second-round 78 and a final-round 84 to finish at 239 (77-78-84). He had 13 pars in the second round and nine pars in the final round.
 
ULM returns to the course on March 20-21 at the All-American Invitational in Houston.
