Warhawk Tennis Opens SBC Play at Marshall, App State

MONROE, La. – After two weeks off, the ULM tennis team returns to the court to begin Sun Belt Conference action at 10 a.m. EST/9 a.m. EST Saturday at Marshall before closing out the road swing at 10 a.m. EDT/9 a.m. CDT Sunday at App State.
 
The Warhawks are 2-9 overall after suffering a 4-2 loss at McNeese on Feb. 24 and a 6-1 loss at Houston on Feb. 25. Giovanna Pereira leads the way with eight singles wins, playing at a mix of the No. 3, 4 and 5 spots. She also leads the team with eight doubles wins. Alice Klinteby is second on the team with seven singles wins, playing primarily in the No. 2 or No. 3 slots, and has totaled six doubles wins, good for second on the team. Alessandra Anghel has five singles and five doubles wins while playing in the top position in singles and doubles.
 
Marshall is 5-4 overall entering its first season of SBC play. The Thundering Herd has wins at Kentucky (4-3), vs. Charleston (W.Va.) 7-0, vs. Bellarmine (6-1), at Cincinnati (6-1) and vs. EKU (7-0). Johanna Strom is 8-0 in singles, playing five of her matches on court two. Doroteja Joksovic and Andjela Lopicic are each 5-3 in singles play. Gabrielle Clairotte and Rieke Gillar have formed the top doubles team at 7-1 on the season, while Emma Vanderheyden and Strom are 6-2.
 
App State is 3-4 entering SBC action and faces Arkansas State on Saturday before ULM comes to Boone, North Carolina, on Sunday. The Mountaineers own wins against Lees-McRae (7-0), at Queens (4-3) and at Davidson (4-0). Savannah Dada-Mascoll leads the team in singles play at 4-1, including a 3-1 mark on court three. Helena Jansen is 3-3 on court one. Ellie Murphy and Jansen are 3-2 on court one in doubles, while Maggie Pate and Dada-Mascoll are 3-3 on court two.
