MONROE, La. – The No. 11 seed ULM tennis team opens play at the Sun Belt Conference Championship at 2:30 p.m. EDT/1:30 p.m. CDT Wednesday against No. 6 seed Marshall at the Peachtree City Tennis Center in Peachtree City, Georgia.
ULM is 5-17 overall and finished SBC play 3-8 after last Saturday's 5-2 loss at Texas State to close the regular season.
Alice Klinteby and
Giovanna Pereira each have 12 singles wins to pace ULM. Klinteby has played primarily in the No. 2 or 3 slots, while Pereira has played in the No. 3, 4, and 5 spots. Pereira also leads the team with 13 doubles victories while Klinteby has nine doubles wins.
Alessandra Anghel has nine singles and nine doubles wins while playing in the top position in singles and doubles.
Marshall is 14-8 overall and finished SBC action at 7-4. Johanna Strom, the SBC Freshman of the Year and Singles First-Team All-SBC selection, leads the Thundering Herd with 18 singles victories. She also earned Doubles First-Team All-SBC honors with Emma Vanderheyden, posting a 13-5 record on court one. Doroteja Joksovic won 13 singles matches for the Herd, while Sophia Hurrion added 11. In doubles, Second-Team All-SBC selections Aisling McGrane and Hurrion won 13 matches, while Gabrielle Clairotte and Rieke Gillar have won 12 matches.
The Thundering Herd won the first meeting between the two teams, 6-1, on March 11 in Huntington, West Virginia. Strom and Vanderheyden along with McGrane and Hurrion swept the doubles point, while Pereira earned ULM's only singles point on court five against Gillar, while Vanderheyden, Strom, Joksovic, McGrane and Hurrion earned singles wins for Marshall.
