ULM Women’s Golf Plays Host to First Home Tournament in Four Seasons

Women's Golf
MONROE, La. – For the first time in four seasons, the Warhawk women's golf program will play host to a home tournament by welcoming eight other teams to Monroe, Louisiana, for the ULM Invitational, scheduled for April 3-4. The 54-hole tournament will be played at the par-72, 6,082-yard Bayou DeSiard Country Club.

It marks ULM's first home tournament since October 15, 2018, when nine teams completed two rounds of the Fred Marx Invitational at Bayou DeSiard Country Club. The last 18 holes were canceled due to inclement weather.

In its last tournament, ULM claimed both the team and individual titles at the Bama Beach Bash (March 19-21) in Gulf Shores, Alabama, with the Warhawks finishing at 15-over-par 879 and Chantal Dueringer taking medalist honors with a 5-under 211. The Warhawks finished atop the team leaderboard, 23 shots ahead of second-place Colorado State (38-over 902).

The Warhawks, who have won three tournament championships during the 2022-23 season, enter the ULM Invitational rated No. 86 in the latest Golfstat rankings among NCAA Division I women's programs – their highest position in program history. The three tournament championships are the second-highest single-season total in school history, trailing only the 2013-14 Warhawks who won four titles.

ULM has placed first in three of its last five tournaments and finished among the top seven teams in each of its nine competitions this season.

The highest ranked opponent in the ULM Invitational field is No. 53 Sam Houston, which has captured four team championships in 2022-23. The nine-team field features four other programs – three from the Sun Belt Conference – that are listed among Golfstat's Top 150, including No. 119 Houston Christian, No. 129 Arkansas State, No. 131 Southern Miss and No. 136 South Alabama. Other participants in the ULM Invitational field include Missouri State, SFA and Texas A&M Commerce.

ULM's current team scoring average of 292.41 ranks as the best single-season mark in program history. The Warhawks have already set single-season records for birdies (365) and eagles (9).

ULM head coach Rachel Pollock's lineup card includes Dueringer, the only senior on the 2022-23 roster, along with freshman Johanna Sjursen, freshman Anna Andrysova, sophomore Sara Hagglund and junior Alessia Mengoni. In addition, junior Line Petersen will compete in the tournament as an individual.

Dueringer, who won her first career championship at the Bama Beach Bash, has produced six Top-10 finishes this season. She leads the Warhawks in scoring average (72.48), birdies (84), eagles (ULM single-season record 5), par-4 scoring (4.02) and par-5 scoring (4.91). Her 72.48 scoring average is the lowest single-season total in school history and currently ranks No. 78 among NCAA Division I golfers. Dueringer has posted seven rounds in the 60s this season. Her lowest 54-hole total of 7-under-par 209 resulted in a pair of fourth-place finishes at the USA Intercollegiate last fall and again at the GCU Invitational this spring.

Sjursen ranks second on the team in birdies (81) and eagles (4) and third in scoring average at 74.00. She has finished among the Top 20 in six tournaments, including the last four in a row. The last time out, Sjursen tied for fifth at the Bama Beach Bash with a 7-over 223. She fired her best 54-hole score of 1-over 217 at the USA Intercollegiate last fall while tying for 22nd place.

Andrysova leads the Warhawks in par-3 scoring (3.11) while ranking second in scoring average (73.30) and third in birdies (79). Her 73.30 scoring average is the second-lowest single-season total in program history, and her six Top-10 finishes is tied with Dueringer for the team lead. Andrysova's top finish came at The Judson last fall when she tied for second at even-par 216. Her low score for 54 holes of 4-under 212 came at the USA Intercollegiate (tied for sixth). Andrysova has recorded three rounds in the 60s.

Hagglund posted her first career Top-20 finish in the Bama Beach Bash, tying for 15th place at 11-over 227. She ranks sixth on the team in scoring average at 77.00 while delivering 32 birdies.

Mengoni, who ranks fourth on the team in scoring average (74.89) and birdies (74), has posted three rounds in the 60s. She finished in a three-way tie for first place at the GCU Invitational after carding a third-round 66 en route to an 8-under 208. Last fall, Mengoni tied for second place in The Judson with an even-par 216.
