MONROE, La. – The ULM men's golf team closes out the regular season Monday and Tuesday at the Tiger Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Missouri, at the Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Missouri.
The Club at Old Hawthorne is a par-72 set up. The course is built on rolling terrain and has several water hazards. The fairways are wide, while six holes have strategically-placed center fairway bunkers. The greens take advantage of the terrain to create different shelves and bowls, dividing them into quadrants.
ULM is set to compete with
Otto Van Buynder,
Melan Dhaubhadel,
Rory Milne,
Javier Balbastre and
Mikkel Schmitt. The Warhawks will compete against Missouri, Arkansas State, Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas State, Lipscomb, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, Rutgers and Wyoming.
Van Buynder leads the team with a 71.85 stroke average. He finished in a tie for 26th at this week's Bearkat Invitational at Walden on Lake Conroe, shooting 3-over-par 219 (69-72-78). He has played in all nine events and had his score count towards the team score in 25 of 27 rounds. He has four Top-10 finishes and has been inside the Top-20 six times in nine previous starts. His best finish in the spring came at the Border Olympics, where he tied for fifth at 1-under-par 215 (70-75-70). He leads the team in last-round average (72.67), par-4 scoring (4.07), par-5 scoring (4.67), eagles (5), pars per round (11.59), bogeys per round (2.78) and double bogeys per round (0.26)
Dhaubhadel is third on the team with a 72.96 stroke average. He tied for 20th at 2-over-par 218 (69-74-75) at the Bearkat Invitational at Walden. He also has played in all nine events for ULM and has factored into the team score in 22 of 27 rounds, including the last 19 rounds. He has two Top-10 finishes on the season and three Top-15 placings. He tied for sixth at 9-under-par 207 (67-69-71) at the White Sands Bahamas Invitational and tied for seventh at 2-over-par 218 (71-72-75) at the Desert Mountain Collegiate. He leads the team in first-round average (71.33), birdies (94) and subpar strokes per round (3.56).
Milne is coming off his best tournament as a Warhawk, leading the team at the Bearkat Invitational by shooting a 1-under-par 215 (73-72-70) to tie for 13th. He is playing in just his third tournament of the season.
Balbastre has a 75.08 stroke average. He has played in four tournaments this season, with his score factoring into the team score in nine of 12 rounds. He has played in three events this spring, competing at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, Desert Mountain Collegiate and the All-American. His best tournament came at the Bayou City Collegiate, where he shot 4-over-par 220 (76-72-72).
Schmitt is second on the team with a 72.33 stroke average. He is playing in his first tournament of the spring after playing in four events in the fall. He tied for fifth at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite by shooting 2-under-par 208 (67-68-73) for his best tournament of the year. He has three career Top-10 finishes.
