MONROE, La. – The ULM cross country team won both the men's and women's team titles at the Warhawk Cross Country Festival Saturday morning at Charles Johnson Children's Park.

"Coach J.D. Malone and the rest of the track & field staff put on an awesome cross country festival for the greater Monroe community today," head coach Jacob Poyner said. "The coaching staff's vision is to seek out continued growth with this special event for future ULM Warhawks and area competitors as we forge onwards towards creating an increasingly premier competitive cross country experience in Northeast Louisiana."

For the men, the top five was all Warhawks. Chase Gunn finished in first place with a time of 22:59.7. Brayden Ortiz was right behind him in second place with a time of 22:59.8. Carlo Martinez-Jaramillo, Juwan Blignaut, and Teddy Gowen all finished third, fourth, and fifth place.

The women's team finished with the same result with ULM sweeping the top five. Eliana Battle continues to lead the Warhawks with her first-place finish coming in at a time of 18:53.7.  Kimone Campbell and Ansley Long took second and third with times of 18:53.9 and 18:54.0. Anna Naff and Sohalia Schoen also took fourth and fifth place.

"This was a great day for both our men and women who raced," Poyner said. "We wanted to win the meet with controlled effort and pack running up front, and they did a great job of that."

The Warhawks return to action at 9 a.m. Saturday when they travel to Lake Charles, Louisiana, to compete in the McNeese Stampede.
