ROME, Ga. -- The ULM tennis team claimed the doubles point but eventually dropped its Sun Belt Conference First Round match to the Ragin' Cajuns on Wednesday (April 24) afternoon at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga.
The Warhawks collected wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles to earn the first point of the duel versus the Ragin' Cajuns. The Cajuns won 6-0 at No. 3 doubles after Cristina Tchanichev and Karolina Skowronska beat
Mackenzie King and
Raquel Alvaro. ULM evened the score when senior
Giovanna Pereira and
Angela Del Campo Suarez edged Angelique Berrat and Nina Krecklenberg 6-2 in No. 2 doubles.Â
Alice Klinteby and
Tamara Bachmann defeated Carla Urchoeguia and Jenaila Prulla in No. 1 doubles to give the Warhawks the doubles point, 6-3.
Urchoeguia bounced back with a straight-set singles win at No. 1 for the Ragin' Cajuns and defeated
Mariam Hatem (6-1, 6-1) to even the match score. Skowronska recorded a win at No. 6 singles after a 6-2, 6-0 victory over King. Krecklenberg won the first set over Tamara Bachman 6-1 and then led 4-0 before a retirement was called by Bachmann. The Cajuns clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles when Berrat won over Klinteby. Pereira won her first set at No. 4 singles over Prulla and trailed 4-2 when play was suspeneded while Del Campo Suarez fell 7-6 in set one and led 2-0 in set two over Tchanichev.
