MONROE, La. – The University of Louisiana Monroe's athletic training room has been dedicated in honor of Dr. Thomas H. Fields, Jr., the department announced on Friday (Feb. 7).

Dr. Fields served as a ULM team physician for over 30 years. His dedication and tireless commitment to the medical care of ULM student-athletes will forever be remembered by the players, coaches and staff that he provided comfort and care.

Before serving as the ULM team physician, Dr. Fields served his country as a major in the Air National Guard and worked in the tactical surgery unit at the Alvin Callender Air Field in New Orleans.

Dr. Fields was a fixture in Northeast Louisiana, providing patient care through his private practice in Monroe. His kindness, generosity and heart of service went beyond ULM athletics. He provided his time and giving spirit to local area high schools, the Monroe Karate Club, the Apex Fight Association and the Monroe City Police Reserves. Dr. Fields passed on September 26, 2017, yet his inspiration and commitment to ULM is everlasting.
