For the 2022-23 season on the men’s side, Honeycutt’s group had early success with Ali Eren Unlu’s school record breaking performance of 2.20m in indoors for the high jump in the season opener! The previous high jump record had stood since 1986. He led Unlu to consistent success where he won the high jump at the conference championship rebreaking his own school record with 2.21m and securing a bid to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field championships where he became ULM’s first Indoor First-Team All-American in the jumps since the 90’s. He also guided Ali to a successful outdoor season with a win at Mt. SAC Relays in the Elite division (2.20m), another conference champion title and school record breaking performance (2.23m), and a successful performance at the NCAA East Preliminary Round to secure his bid to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Unlu had finished the NCAA season as an Honorable Mention All-American. Unlu was also successful on the international scene where Honeycutt guided him as a part of the Turkish National Team to a 6th place finish (2.20m) at European Team Championships and a gold medal performance of 2.22m at the European U23 Championships. His athletes were responsible for 33.5pts out of 55pts scored. He guided sophomore Eunice Ilunga Mbuyi to Sun Belt Conference long jump and triple jump champion titles for the second season in a row. He qualified 2 athletes over 3 events to the NCAA East Preliminary Round including Ilunga Mbuyi that ended up placing in the top 12 to get a bid to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the triple jump with a mark of 13.41m and barely missed out in the long jump with a 13th place finish by 1cm. Ilunga Mbuyi also had some international success under Honeycutt’s guidance with a 5th place finish at French U23 Championships, a French National Team selection to the European U23 Championships and a 4th place finish at the French Elite Championships. Another highlight of the women’s team was Olaia Becerril Alvarez and her bronze medal finish at the outdoor conference championships.
