Glenn Smith completed his fifth season as Assistant Coach with the ULM track & field program and works primarily with jumps, javelin and multi-events. Smith has coached 8 Sun Belt Champions, 20 Sun Belt Medalists, 14 NCAA Regional Qualifiers and an Honorable Mention All-American.

In the 2020 indoor season, Jasmine Scott-Kilgo won the Sun Belt Indoor Championship in the long jump, Sam Healy took second in the men's long jump and Micaiah Dendy took the bronze medal in the triple jump. Rebekka Schubert broke the school record in the pentathlon at the Sun Belt Indoor Championship. 

The 2019 season was outstanding as Smith’s athletes collected 7 Sun Belt Conference medals between the indoor and outdoor seasons. Four of his athletes qualified the NCAA regionals and each of them were USTFCCCA All-Academic recipients (Lebrun Nelson TJ, Sam Healy LJ, Colm Bourke LJ, Cole McKnight JT). Cole McKnight repeated as Sun Belt javelin champion and Jasmine Scott-Kilgo won her second Canadian U20 championship in the long jump.

In 2018 Cole McKnight won the Sun Belt Championship as a freshman and was the 3rd ranked U20 javelin thrower in the USA. Micaiah Dendy won the Sun Belt Conference indoor championship as a freshman in the triple jump and Jemal Parharm repeated as indoor Sun Belt Conference long jump champion. Parharm and McKnight qualified for the NCAA Regional meet.

In the 2017 season, Jemal Parharm won his first indoor Sun Belt championship in the long jump. Lebrun Nelson(TJ), Adriunna Brown (TJ) and Jemal Parharm (LJ) each qualified for the NCAA regional meet.

In his first indoor season (2016), Smith coached three medalists at the Sun Belt Indoor Conference Championships as Isaac Grieder won the heptathlon, Lebrun Nelson earned a silver medal in the triple jump and Jemal Parharm Jr. finished third in the long jump. In the outdoor season, Jemal Parharm qualified for the NCAA outdoor championships earning All-American Honorable Mention honors, the first NCAA qualifier for ULM since 2010.  He coached 3 medalists in the SBC Championships including champion Adriunna Brown in long jump, Corey Wesley silver in triple jump and Jemal Parharm was silver medalist in long jump.  Smith coached 5 NCAA regional qualifiers in the horizontal jumps in 2016.

Smith came to ULM after spending two seasons as Assistant Coach at Iowa State where he was in charge of sprints and hurdles. He coached nine regional qualifiers, including Ese Okoro who was an All-American in the 400m hurdles and a member of England’s Commonwealth Games team.

He also assisted Kendra White to All-American Second-Team honors and the school record in the 400m, as well as Derek Jones who finished top-20 in the world among juniors in the 400m hurdles and was a USATF Junior qualifier in 2014.

From 2011-13, Smith was an Olympic development coach for the Canadian National Team. He assisted in the coaching of the top heptathletes in the country, including 2012 Olympic finalist Jessica Zelinka. Smith also worked as the Canadian National Team jumps coach for the 2012 NACAC under 23 Championships, and was the 2013 IPC World Track & Field Championships team coach.

Prior to his time with the Canadian National team, Smith held Assistant Coach stints at Central Michigan (two seasons), Tulane (three seasons) and Neosho County (one season).

As an athlete, Smith was a sprinter on the Canadian National team and was the 1999 Canadian Champion in the 200m. He went on to finish 13th in the 200m at the 1999 IAAF World Track & Field Championships. He was honored as the Athletics Canada Fred Tees Award winner, awarded to the top athlete enrolled at a Canadian University. Smith represented Canada six times in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m and 4x400m relay.

Smith earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Calgary, and his Master’s Degree in Sports Science and Nutrition from the University of Texas at Austin. He is married to the former LaShawn Wright of Mesquite, Texas and they live in West Monroe, LA with their son Atlas.

Smith is a certified coach USATF Level 2 Jumps and Throws.
