Justin Romero begins his first season with the Warhawks, Romero will be the primary throws coach, assisting those participating in the javelin, shot-put, hammer throw, discus, and weight throw. 

Romero joins the ULM staff after five years at Southwest Minnesota State University as the assistant track and field coach for throws. At SMSU, Romero helped guide the program after it became a division II program in 2013. Under the guidance of Romero, SMSU had its first female T&F athlete qualify for the Division II NCAA Championship in discus. 

At Southwest Minnesota State, Romero was responsible for handling all aspects of coaching in addition to recruiting, travel, workout plans, and budgetary duties. He also served as a game day administrator and committee member for athletic fundraising events.

Over the past year, Romero has also worked with the USA Deaf Track & Field team, covering the coaching responsibilities for long jumpers, high jumpers, and all throwing events. Romero's athletes competed in the 2017 Summer Deaflympics in Turkey, taking home the silver medal in high jump. Romero was also selected to coach during the 2019 World Deaf Indoor Championships in Estonia.

As a coach, Romero has helped student-athletes reach their full potential, earning national recognition, including two conference champions in shot-put, nine all-conference performances, 14 Division II national provisional marks, two all-region honorees, one Division II national qualifier, one USA junior outdoor championship qualifier, and 10 school records.

Romero began his career in coaching as a intern for the track and field team at the University of Northern Iowa (2011) and as a youth counselor and track and field coach at the Woodward Academy (2013).

Romero earned his bachelor of arts degree in general studies from Northern Iowa in 2012. He minored in chemistry and coaching while at UNI. As a student-athlete, Romero was a two-time indoor conference champions and two-time outdoor conference runner-up. He was a Division I All-American and set personal bests in shot-put (19.01m) and discus (50.33m).

Coach Romero is married to his wife, April and the couple have two sons, Duke and Ezekiel.
